We did. And it was a typical small supernatural town date where it was interrupted by a murder.

[She pauses, running her finger around the rim of her glass.]

I don't think it's going anywhere though. It was fun, but I don't think his heart was in it.

[Not that he was phoning it in, necessarily, but he wasn't invested the way he should be. So it was what it was, and she can walk away and be an adult about it.]

Then it's not for you. You deserve the guy whose heart is in it. And I don't know anyone who wouldn't sink their whole heart into you, Lydia Martin.

( She tilts her head and rests it on her shoulder, soaking in this best friend time. )

That came off more gross than I intended.

[She laughs, before tipping her head to rest it over Allison's.]

It did. But it's the thought that counts.

[She tips her head to the side.]

And I really am glad you're happy, by the way. If anyone deserves it after everything we've been through in the last ten years, it's you.

( She tips her head back, too. )

If Damon wasn't right, someone right is out there. Why did you and Stiles not work out again?

Because being really good friends doesn't always make you romantically compatible.

[She turns to her with a smirk.]

If it did, I would have married you a long time ago.

[Jokes aside:]

Besides, I think he's kind of into Cora right now. Mostly because he's fleeing from her like she might burn him.

He fled because he was overwhelmed and instead of processing what happened to him, he flung himself into training. I don't know if any of us really processed what happened to Stiles.

( She thinks about it, acutely aware suddenly. )

I'm not even sure I have.

You didn't have to scream for him.

[Or sit with his dead body in the hospital. Lydia is very aware of what happened to Stiles, but she can only help him if he wants her help. She can't break his denial if he won't let her.]

But it had seemed like Cora was getting through. And Hales are hard to read as a general rule, but I think she might have actually had a visible feeling about him leaving.

Weren't they on a date? You and Damon, Cora and Stiles? Separately? Was I reading that wrong?

( Has she been reading this wrong? )

I was on a date. And Caroline was on a date. But Scott and Cora were mostly there in the event that Stiles wasn't as ready to be in big crowds of people as he and Caroline thought.

[And he wasn't. No offense intended to Stiles, because from what she can tell, being a vampire is hard, but it was too soon, and she can see how he might have been messed up because of that night.]

Well, we all know what happened instead of your dates. So. Caroline tried. Not every teaching technique works on everyone. Like you I just wish he'd said something to any of us.

( She suspects Cora will be fine, underneath that one feeling Lydia witnessed, anyway. )

[She nods.]

Stiles isn't really the best at communicating. Which is shocking, given how much talking he does.

[So many words, so little of them meaning anything.]

Not if you dated his best friend. Stiles says a lot, but he really doesn't say much. Past the latest threat of the week.

( And TMI when he was dating Malia... )

[She nods in agreement.]

I just hope that he does find someone to really talk to. It seems like he needs it.

Me too. Not that all of us couldn't do with a little therapy.

( Which gets a little bit underneath where she's coming from. )

It's one thing to have a boyfriend, it's another to make it official and then follow him home to meet his mother.

[She tips her head to the side.]

Look, you may be Sam's girlfriend, but you're also the head of the Argent family, and his mom is a hunter. I think Sam would be okay with this if you'd rather start this off on a professional foot.

What does that even mean? Walk back what I mean to him so I can lead with my family's name? No. I'm meeting his mother as Allison Argent, but Allison, first. I don't need to intimidate Mary Winchester.

( With her... exploits, she's a little intimidated herself. )

No, you don't.

[She pauses as she does some quick mental math.]

But you might want to consider leading with the changes you've made to the family, because if my math is right, her most active years were when Gerard was in charge.

If she has any questions, I'll lead with changes to the Argent name. Sam said she was resurrected a few years ago, so, maybe she's used to things being different.

( Which, is something else to think about. )

[She takes a deep breath.]

That would have been the one upside to dating Damon. No meeting the parents except mine.

[And wouldn't that have been awkward.]

Did you see any other upsides?

( She's just saying, Damon's heart may not have been in it, but she's pretty sure the same was true of Lydia's. )

[She shrugs.]

He was charming. Easy to spend time with. It's not like I haven't dated at all since Stiles, but if you don't know if someone is supernatural, it's hard to really open up to them about ... all of this.

[A pause.]

Less to explain if I have to wander off to find a dead body on our first date.

( She grins. )

[She laughs before perking up a bit at the possibilities.]

I have always wondered about riding a cowboy.

[All hype or actually worth the effort. She is very curious.]

I don't think it really save a horse.

( But, she is all for Lydia riding a cowboy! )

[She shakes her head.]

Definitely not, in my case. But I'm sure the cowboy will still enjoy it all the same.
