I did some reading on Doc Holliday. I quite liked the film Tombstone.

I didn't much care for the Wild West. I preferred the bustle of the city. You should have seen Los Angeles then. I passed through one of those towns once or twice, but I was the mysterious stranger. It made it easy to eat.

( but nothing like a fond memory. )

The frontier lands always made that easy. Everyone was spaced so far apart that it was hard for word to spread.

[Her past doesn't weigh on her as heavily as it should, but it's still slightly uncomfortable to reminisce about it now.]

Oddly enough, we met when we were still vampires.

But by the time we were cured ... we both wanted the same things. The same real life. It's so nice to just ... be on the same page.

[As much as she loved Marcel, that was never something they managed. They always were slightly out of sync.]

Chicago, actually. He was on the run from a curse and I was having drinks with Stefan, and we bumped into each other. At first it was a lot of charm, but then as we started to get to know each other. Then the curse started to get complicated, and the family he was running from came to save him. I helped.

When all was said and done, by the end of it he was human, and by the time Elena gave me the cure, we were quite in love.

( Ah, Chicago. He does have fond memories. )

And what of Marcel? I confess I didn't keep up like I should with you two. Then again, who could. You're on, you're off, he proposes, you're back in New Orleans.

I love Marcel. I do. But I don't think we were ever on the same page or wanting the same things.

[She shakes her head.]

I think he more wanted me to have what I wanted, than actually wanted the same things I did. Does that make sense?

He could not accept what you truly wanted. And he liked being a vampire. And he wanted - he wants you happy.

( It takes a lot for him to say it. But, he does. )

He does. And I want him happy too.

[She shrugs.]

But I don't think I was the one who was going to do it.

I can't say I thought you were the one for him, but I had my suspicions.

( Not hopes. It could never be hopes. )

What is it about John Henry?

[She considers for a moment, staring out at the city as she considers.]

I don't know if it was one thing. Honestly, it was more a lot of little things. How many things we had in common. How much we still have to catch up on with regards to this time. I felt like he actually understood me.

He wasn't kept in a box?

It's hard to hear about someone when you were daggered in a pine box for most of their life.

[Klaus daggered her in 1837, before Doc was born, and he didn't wake her up until 1887, when Doc was already "dead."]

What I did hear was mostly Donna telling stories about her friend John Henry.
