Chicago, actually. He was on the run from a curse and I was having drinks with Stefan, and we bumped into each other. At first it was a lot of charm, but then as we started to get to know each other. Then the curse started to get complicated, and the family he was running from came to save him. I helped.

When all was said and done, by the end of it he was human, and by the time Elena gave me the cure, we were quite in love.

And what of Marcel? I confess I didn't keep up like I should with you two. Then again, who could. You're on, you're off, he proposes, you're back in New Orleans.

I love Marcel. I do. But I don't think we were ever on the same page or wanting the same things.

[She shakes her head.]

I think he more wanted me to have what I wanted, than actually wanted the same things I did. Does that make sense?

He could not accept what you truly wanted. And he liked being a vampire. And he wanted - he wants you happy.

( It takes a lot for him to say it. But, he does. )

[She shrugs.]

I can't say I thought you were the one for him, but I had my suspicions.

What is it about John Henry?

I don't know if it was one thing. Honestly, it was more a lot of little things. How many things we had in common. How much we still have to catch up on with regards to this time. I felt like he actually understood me.

It's hard to hear about someone when you were daggered in a pine box for most of their life.

[Klaus daggered her in 1837, before Doc was born, and he didn't wake her up until 1887, when Doc was already "dead."]

What I did hear was mostly Donna telling stories about her friend John Henry.

She lives in New York, now. Works at a fancy law firm.

[She frowns.]

Though it seems she was targeted by this list as well, so she might be leaving town for a while.

The world is small.

( It's not a surprised someone as adept and dialed in as Donna would be targeted. )

[A text or something will likely come once she and Harvey are settled somewhere.]

She should. She has been an ally to our family.

( Even when Klaus didn't deserve an ally. But she knows aligning herself with the Originals is always better than going against. )

I am more concerned with a list including my human sister's name, and her human husband. Somebody should check their facts.

I don't think they were too concerned with the facts. And I'm pretty sure witches fell on that list as well.

[So even if Doc would no longer be under their purview, Rebekah still counts.]

It's not as if you announced your cure.

( But they are a high profile family. )
