[She turns to face him more, leaning back against the counter so she can see his face.]

Or, enjoy the fact that he definitely seems to be scared of you.

He must only know me from the true crime series and biopics I never signed off on.

( He hates the one based on his time in prison but it made a good drinking game. )

I now this means something. I know he means something, but we've never met one of William's suitors. Except for that -- violinist we happened to run into.

( And this isn't just Cooper, but his father, and his friend. Seriously, full house. )

Let William lead. If he wants to make a big deal about something, I'm sure he'll let you know.

[But she doesn't think he's wrong.]

And if nothing else, take the opportunity for what it is. Get to know the kid better. Maybe it'll help him be less scared of you.

Do I want him to be less scared of me?

( Yes, he does. He wants his son to trust him and in turn, the person his son likes to trust him, too. Hopefully, Laurel can read that on his face. He knows what's best, and he's read to be there, to host, to get to know the kid. )

I think eventually, that might be a good goal.

[But because Laurel is Laurel and will choose chaos, always.]

But that doesn't mean you can't milk it - at least for a little while.

No, you're not. But you are his father, which means when it comes to significant others, you are allowed to have a little fun.
