( while David delivers the prodigal daughter, the Malreaux siblings take recon at Mexico City.
Rusty travels separately, they can't be too careful.
Max would deny he feels anything about that, or anything for Rusty who rebuffed him, so it's good they're focusing on the matter at hand, isn't it.
they spend hours the first day watching the compound connected to hernandez, but nothing sticks out of place. Rusty estimates a week, but, he makes it clear, it's best to eliminate Hernandez as fast as possible once her body goes up in smoke.
back with zip, zilch and bupkiss, the siblings sit at the rooftop bar.
the dj spins a collection of reggaeton hits and has several guests up on a makeshift dance floor by the rooftop pool. two fruity drinks are placed in front of the Malreaux's.
max rotates from checking the elevators ahead of them and his messages. )

( it's twofold. david's alibi and the trigger they need to turn the entire board over after swiping their hands across the pieces. when sierra resurfaces, 24 hours later, the gauntlet starts, and everything that comes with it.
she waits in the lobby of the Baltimore location.
david and her talked it through beforehand, parking his car down the street first. her parents will be called, but likely won't be there. his will. she reminds herself and him this isn't their parents and even when they were, they weren't god's gift. they were born wanting and keeping power. and in one way they kept it.
she crosses her arms, tapping her fingers along her elbow.
and second, david will be back down. with either his mother, father, or both, in tow. and everything will begin. )

[Sam catches that motion and his eyes meet hers, but she nods to both the Winchesters that she's okay before letting them go and head off to the cave. She turns to face Ezra and crosses her arms in front of her.]
Sure. What's up?
[She's not sure if now is the right time for a heart-to-heart, given what they're here to do, but she's willing to hear him out.]

[Jaqueline picks up her fruity drink, leaning back in the seat and taking a long sip from the straw as she watches her brother on his phone. It's kind of amusing, seeing him not deal with being spurned well. Then again, he hasn't really had much practice.]
Waiting for something?
Waiting for something?
["Are you sure it's her?"
His mother asks the question as he reaches the top of the stairs and David stops, rolling his eyes up to the ceiling.]
You think that I'm unable to recognize a woman I grew up with?
["You never - "]
Why would anyone want to fake being Sierra?
[The scowl that crosses his mother's face tells him he went a step too far. She reaches forward, nails digging into his shoulder as she pulls him to a stop. "One of the Inner Circle is dead and you show up on our doorstep with the missing heir, just out of the blue. You who didn't want to participate in this in the first place? Forgive me if it seems a tad convenient."
David stops, before wrenching his shoulder from her grip.]
You're the one who wants to murder us, Mother. I just want to get it over with.
[And with that, he continues down the stairs and meets eyes with Sierra, jaw set. This is already going so well.]

( her nervousness, but knowledge that this is necessary has her missing everything but 'forgive me if it seems a tad convenient' (5)
she knows how to play it, anyway. )
Except, all parties involved know how inconvenient you've made things. Helena.

[Helena's gaze narrows (15), reading into the nerves on Sierra's face, but for now, passes it off as being about the Gauntlet, in addition to returning home after so long. She plasters on a smile, before making her way down with her arms out.
"Sierra, darling. We've missed you. I'm sure your parents will be delighted to see you."
David rolls his eyes.]
Funny, considering they wanted her back to essentially kill her.

Maybe he had some trouble getting through customs.
[Customs is a pain. Who knows what kind of contraband Rusty might have been trying to slip across the boarder.]
I'm sure he'll be here eventually.

[While and the gratitude does thaw some of the ice she's been holding up, but at the same time, she can't help but pick a little at it. She's not the naive seventeen year-old she used to be, more willing to give someone the benefit of the doubt, only for it to come back and bite her.]
If you were never planning on turning me over to the Colony, why not tell me when you first entered my life? Why wait until you got caught?
[If she had known in the beginning, they could have become friends on a more even field, rather than leaving Elena feeling like she got duped. Plus, she would have known what she was up against.]

( Sierra's smile is polite, but curt, as is the hug she takes turning her cheek for a quick kiss. she has to keep up her appearances. she is a daughter come home, one who's seen the light. and knows what needs to be done. )
Now, David. ( she steps back. ) The Gauntlet is tradition. Barbaric, ancient, last restort - tradition. And browbeating won't unring the bell, will it?

[Nope. She makes a face at the name because she remembers them all too well, and it makes sense that he was being watched.
She can't argue with the explanation, but it still stings.]
Okay. Noted. Should we go deal with this body now?
[They have business to get to, and she doesn't want to be focusing on these messy feelings. But, she does have enough grace to give that while she realizes what he's trying to do, she's not going to accept his apology without him actually making one.
He still needs to use the words "I'm sorry."]

[She watches the phone tap for a bit before rolling her eyes.]
Your desperation is showing.
[She's his sister. She's allowed to call him out on it. And tease him about it.]
Is he really the first person who's ever told you no?

( they're going to talk about it? they're going to talk about it. he doesn't look her in the eye, though. )
You know the answer to that.
( she went to school with him. saw his girlfriends. hookups. lovers. she's seen him sneak people out. no isn't a word he heard much - even from his parents. )

He's still so dour.
( she can still slap on the 'what's expected of her' air.
in the sitting room, she accepts a martini, as it's cocktail hour. (it's always cocktail hour in the colony.) )
In all honesty, Helena, I was having an identity crisis.
( which is not even a lie at all. she decides to run along the edges of what she really was doing. )

["Really?" Helena tips her head to the side curiously. "What were you struggling with, dear?"
Helena is very good at pretending she cares. It's one of her greatest strengths, beyond her magic. And she's definitely putting her caring face on now, as though she doesn't plan to turn these things to knives later.]

[It's honestly kind of tragic, but also not surprising. Max was always most frustrated by the things he couldn't have, so he went out of his way to make sure he never had to worry about that.]
Is it because he has the power now? Or are you really hurt that he doesn't want to sleep with you?
[Because it feels like a power thing. Rusty was able to refuse, so he becomes something Max can't control. Can't get out of his system because Rusty won't let him and is keeping himself there.]

[His back is to her, so he doesn't see the way her shoulders relax at the actual apology, without caveats or complications. It's not the most perfect apology she ever received, but it is one that he gave without her having to call him out on how much of a non-apology it was.
She'll take it, but she's still going to need time to get them back to where they were.
She'll give Dean a small smile and a nod in return when they get to the top, and glances back to the rest of the group.]
So what are we dealing with?

Your guys' research points us to this cave. Everything else in this place is man made. ( he pats the cave wall. ) This is au naturale.
( "Translation," Evelyn chimes. "Most likely where a several hundred or more year old witch would stash her original body." She's not Winchester-ready for ancient problems, but what's a several hundred year old witch vs a several hundred year old poltergeist.
