( The doors close behind them and Harvey lets David take the lead, button-wise. He's along for the ride, here to evaluate, replace, and perhaps eliminate.

[He hits a few buttons - he's guessing Elena's still in the ICU, unless they've managed to move her that quickly after her "miraculous" recovery. Once they reach the floor, David steps out first, eyes scanning the faces and through the windows in search of either the patient or their doctor.]

( Harvey, overdressed for any hospital, follows. He steps out of the way for four incoming, Stiles, Lydia, Jackson and, Alexander. Or, from Harvey's side, a witch, and three supernaturals. He doesn't say anything, just smiles to let them through, giving a very pointed look at David.

He waits until the elevator doors to close. )

Elena's room is up ahead?

[David barely gives the cluster of supernaturals a glance as they pass him by, keeping himself focused on the task at hand.]

Yeah, I think so.

[Probably the room the new vampire just came from.]

( Probably. He doesn't direct David in any way, or tell him to follow his lead. David's done this before, and with Harvey. It's easy.

The door is already open, that makes things easier.

He knocks, softening his cutthroat edges, curious if she'll still be in her bed or, up and walking. )

[Elena looks up in surprise, glancing between the two men in front of her. She wasn't expecting any visitors, especially visitors she doesn't know, but here they are.

"Yes?"]

I'm Officer Gainor, with the state police, and this is ADA Specter. We wanted to ask you a couple questions about the accident you were in last night?

You're not in trouble. This is the third accident that's occurred along that stretch of highway. And we'd like to address the county's concerns.

( He makes his own statement, not approaching the bed, giving Elena her space. )

Do you mind making a statement? We found two cars. One registered to you and one that was stolen.

No, not at all, but I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help.

[She's not trying to be unhelpful, even though her spider sense is tingling - usually the locals try to cover things up before they make it outside the town boundaries.

Fortunately for Elena, this much is the truth:]

( Since she was unconscious for most of it. He's aware she won't give him anything useful. But, he will now have to be thorough enough to cover any other motive. )

Until they found the abandoned car, they were calling it a hit and run.

[She shifts up a little more, trying not to seem uncomfortable.]

One of our friends took a bad fall, so we were trying to take him to the hospital. Care was driving, and I was in the back with him. I'm a doctor.

( To make things clear. She pushes up a bit more, and it's clear she's not in recovery. She's recovered. )

Do you remember seeing a sign on the side of the road? Something that might deter someone from plowing into your car?

( Yellow. Yield. Irrelevant, but he asks anyway. )

[She shakes her head. She barely even remembers where they actually got hit.]

I wasn't paying attention. I'm sorry.

That's alright. It sounds like we should speak to your friend, Caroline, if we have any other questions.

( Questions of speed, direction, etc. )

I do have to apologize, we haven't found the occupant of the other car. But, we are looking.

( From what he knows, they're probably dead. )

[Elena is also thinking that, but she plays along with the story.]

Well, wherever they are, I hope they're okay.

You're nicer than we are. Did you have any other questions for Ms. Gilbert, Officer Gainor?

[David shakes his head, after having spent most of the conversation with his head running around the room, looking for anything suspicious.]

No, I think you've covered it. Hope you feel better, Ms. Gilbert.

[Elena nods with a small smile. "Thanks."]

( They won't. He smiles, looks to David and then heads back out into the hallway. Down the hall, tapping the surface of an iPad is his other intended. He glances back to David before heading further away from Elena's door and out of earshot and eye-line.

He walks past Ezra, first, in case Elena has decided to watch them leave. He stops once, to make sure Ezra knows he's expected to follow before scanning one of the building keys. Finding Ezra's office, he calls for the elevator, again, not acknowledging him as he steps inside. He does turn and as the doors close, intently focuses on him. )

[David slows and comes to a stop on the other side of his husband, again out of Elena's eyeline. He doesn't know if she can see Ezra from here, but he feels the need to play it safe, just in case.

He leans against the table and takes a deep breath.]

Hi.

( Ezra sighs, setting the tablet back down among a cart of tablets. )

Hey.

( He rolls them back the few feet back to the nurse's station. )

Just updating patient notes. Good to see the Gestapo is still punctual.

That's my fault.

[He makes a face.]

I opted against spending five hours trapped in a car with him.

Did both of you pay Elena Gilbert a visit?

( Is that complicating his life more? Turning it into a, the two of them can't be in the same room, situation? )

He didn't really leave me with much of a choice.

( He had an entire plan in his mind as soon as he realized she miraculously healed. He can't be angry at anyone but himself. And the hunters. )

( He lets his eyes fall closed, just for a second. He indicates his husband to follow, hitting the button to the elevator. )
