And Harvey doesn't care about much beyond you doing your job. You know that.

This isn't going to make my job any easier. Explaining my - what, transferred state police officer husband? If Harvey wants me to walk this back, I need to be in Elena's life more, with fewer secrets. I have to be her go-to witch.

( He had an entire plan in his mind as soon as he realized she miraculously healed. He can't be angry at anyone but himself. And the hunters. )

( He lets his eyes fall closed, just for a second. He indicates his husband to follow, hitting the button to the elevator. )

Come on, I think the firing range found my office.

[David shrugs because he doesn't know how he's going to fit into that plan anyway, but they can discuss it later, after they finish with Harvey.

Then, only half-seriously:]

I could be my own twin.

Actual sitcom plot.

( The elevator doors close.

Ezra's resolute, pinched face thaws. As dire as this might be and as big of a fuckup as this is, it's good to have his husband here. It only takes one look over to him before he's pulling him closer into an embrace. He's away from him too much of the gods' damn time. )

A real comedy of errors.

[David goes easily, using one hand to rub his back as he comes in closer. They only have a few minutes on the elevator, but it'll be long enough.]

Upside, Harvey only cleared his meetings for today.

( He doesn't step back, but leans enough to put their foreheads together. )

Should I expect a slap on the wrist, then?

( Or, a handler at this point? Or does he just feel like a flick of the wrist will be enough. But, Harvey wouldn't bring David down just to kill Ezra. That's not his style. Poetry, he chooses, but not sadism. Maybe he is safe. )

Don't know yet. He still didn't seem happy about the state of things. And he has a lot of questions about how Elena was healed.

[Not complaints, but questions. They know a lot of things have strings.]

Questions I don't have the answer to.

( Something occurs to him. )

Unless he wants to check the cameras. That should give us something.

( He doesn't want to sell Elena or an angel out, but, he does need to save his own ass. )

I'll give him the option.

( Another sigh and he finally kisses him, just once before holding him for one more second before parting when the doors open. )

You know where my office is.

[David nods, before turning and heading down towards the office. They'll have more time later, once Harvey is safely back in New York, and the world's managed to calm down some.

Especially since this is going to require some changes to their plans.

But off he goes to Ezra's office, pulling open the door and letting them both inside.]

Making yourself at home?

( Harvey is sitting in Ezra's chair. Ezra doesn't sit in one of the two facing him. )

Harvey.

( "Gainors."

Harvey sits back, feet propped up on the desk.

"You two should get more sun. You're like married vampires, and I actually know married vampires."

That wedding was something.

"So. The doppelganger made her miraculous recovery. Are we any closer to figuring out how?" )

There were over ten people in and out of her room that night, including the nurses. Me. The most I could get was there being a student from the Salvatore school. The specifics weren't shared.

[David will sit in one of the chairs, lounging comfortably as the two pass information between them.]

Any chance you saw the student? Could identify him if we got a hold of a yearbook or something?

[There's a graduation happening. Maybe they could get some pictures.]

I kept my distance. I didn't want to be around too much. I figured saving her, that was my best in.

( Talking to David is easier. Harvey is here, sure, but talking to his husband calms him. It steadies him more. )

People I saw were the banshee that came in with them, Caroline Forbes, Stiles - the new vampire. And the Winchesters. None of which have miraculous healing abilities. Unless you know something about banshees we don't.

( "Banshees don't heal. They're harbingers. And in Lydia Martin's case, telekinetics. She figured out how to pressurize her anxious energy. And that school is filled with vampires, witches, and werewolves." )

I didn't see any students, myself.

Then Elena must be covering for someone. That's sweet of her.

[It's annoying, but it's sweet.]

Guess we'll have to see if anyone makes a repeat visit.

Or, ( He looks to Harvey again. ) we check the cameras.

( Harvey smiles at that.

"See, I knew you were proactive. I knew you didn't royally fuck this up on purpose." )

Hey, I didn't royally do anything. Four separate groups converged when I wasn't looking, and even if I had been? I couldn't have done anything about it. Not when the hunters tried to make their play. They're dead, by the way. I went back after my shift, their remains haven't been found yet. And whoever they rolled into town with - they're dead, too.

( Locator spells.

Harvey brings his legs down. )

I'm not here because you slept on the job - even though, you did, I don't care how or why, you compromised our doppelganger. I am here to find out what you plan on doing about it. Do we trust you to handle this yourself?

Can we just check the cameras and move on, please? None of this bickering is going to change what happened.

[And what they learn from the cameras might determine what they decide to do in the future.]

( "You're right. I should leave the bickering to you two."

That's what marrieds do, don't they?

Ezra comes around the desk as Harvey slides the chair back enough to let him in. He gets him and Harvey into his computer as he taps into the camera system. Not that every doctor has access. Most administrators. Friends of administrators. He was chief resident and don't you know it, they don't change the password.

Small towns. )

All right, that's Elena's room right now.

( Elena, Cami and Scott. )

I don't recognize them. Not that they look like students.

[David gets up and comes around to have a look, and since it's kind of important professionally that he knows the who's who of supernatural powerhouses:]

That's Scott McCall. The True Alpha. Don't know the blond.

And unless True Alpha means True Healer, not our man.

( His hand goes to the mouse. )

I'll rewind.

Nope. Not his skill set.

[And he'll just wait for Ezra to rewind, keeping his eyes on the faces as they come and go, trying to see if anyone stands out.]

( It isn't too far they have to rewind, people coming in and out of her room. It's the day before when the screen lights up. )

I think I have something.

[He turns his attention to the film more closely, waiting for things to clear up and the return to an actual picture before pointing to each of the figures.]

Castiel, Sam, Dean ... who's the kid?

One of the students? ( He rubs his chin, gestures. ) I thought because of the cure, any alternative healing backfires. She spits up vampire blood. What bypasses ancient magic.

( "Not Castiel." )

[David stares at the screen for a moment, because there's a lot of questions. Ever since angels started falling, none of them would have the juice to pull off something like this. And the ones that would, wouldn't work with the Winchesters for some random human.

But, there's a thought.]

You know, there's this thing with changeling Fae children. Nine times out of ten human blood dilutes the magic, and they have to work twice as hard to get half as good. But on that tenth time, they'll wind up with too much power. All of the raw talent, but none of the control.

[He rubs a hand against the back of his neck. The Salvatore School has rules about vampires turned as teenagers that they accept as students. They need to be actual teenagers. He's willing to bet the same rule would apply to other supernatural creatures. They wouldn't let an angel wearing a teenager suit play at being a student, and an angel wouldn't be able to fake it.]

I wonder if the same holds true for a nephilim.

( "Nephilim."

Harvey's up now, too, watching the footage play out when Ezra hits play again so the scene can play in real time.

"By David, I think he's got it." )

For a nephilim to hold that much power... Whoever his father or mother is.

( They're high level, too. Angel royalty. )

It makes sense that the Winchesters would keep the birth of a nephilim to themselves.

( "A few years back, two, three, the demons and angels alike were up in arms because of a rumored pregnancy. Talk died down, people moved on. Involving yourself with a Winchester is involving yourself in their maelstrom." )

Only two or three?

[He can't help but raise an eyebrow there. All of the nephilim he ever heard of grew up like normal humans. There's no precedent for something different that he's aware of.]

This kid looks at least sixteen or seventeen.
