( Scott goes left, first, stopping, perception check of (19) and Stiles moves in the direction of the blood (nat 20) for the vampire driven crazy by the very same blood.
"He was here. Ivan."
Here first, Scott thinks. )
The question is, did he wander down here, or was he brought here.
I don't think he did. I smell the blood, but I don't smell him.
[She did not roll as well as her friends, but she rolled well enough to notice that (11). Scott will also notice the same, that while the blood is present, the parts of the scent that would incapsulate the rest of a person is not. Ivan did not come this way, but his blood definitely did.
Stiles is the one that gets the biggest clue, however. That nat 20 means his vampire night vision is kicking in, and he manages to catch some of the blood on one of the trees nearby. As he moves to get a closer look, he notices that the blood transfer isn't moving in the direction of the body. In fact, it looks like it's moving away from the body.
It seems as though the killer brought the blood with him, and brushed against the tree as he made his escape.]
("Guys," Stiles says, approaching the tree and looking back in the direction the killer must have come from. "Whoever killed him - whatever - it went this way. And it's covered in his blood." Enough to brush up against the tree. )
Deputy Miller, it's Scott McCall. We caught on to the trail. Something is still covered in his blood, we're going from there.
( Stiles shakes his head.
"It's not like I'm not law enforcement. And, she has her hands full with the body and the bureaucracy. And it's better she investigate from there. If she wants to join, then, she can ask. Let's follow the rest of the trail.")
( Scott's (2) keeps his veterinary knowledge very specific and not involving lamprey. And even though they dealt with this in high school, it has been over ten years since.
Stiles' (14) remembers at least the term.
"Like the fish?" Scott looks to Stiles. "What, it's jawless. And also a fish.")
Yeah. They're shifters and they can generate mouths like that on their hands. It's incredibly creepy. Peter used to tell us horror stories about them when we were getting on his nerves.
( Stiles gets a (12) to follow the trail in at least the right direction, while Scott doesn't do much better either (11), trying to focus more on the Lamprey's trail, then the blood. )
[Cora picks up the slack, following the scent like a bloodhound (16). The sooner they find this lamprey or lampreys, the sooner they can go back to a normal night.
[Cora hears Stiles go down, so she misses it too (9). Her eyes turn towards the sound, faltering because she cares, and Scott just barely manages to catch the flash of movement as a body comes flying out of the trees, tackling Cora to the ground (4 vs. 11).
( Who was ready to roll for initiative? Not I! Scott gets an (8) and Stiles gets a (20). Cora being tackled is a call to action, apparently. That's Stiles for you, one second, he's dropping, the next, he's here to play.
With a vampire quickness, he rushes over and tries to grapple whatever has tackled Cora for a (6). )
[Twin #1 just manages to shove Stiles off (6), but because he's distracted, Cora's able to swoop in and shove a kick to the gut to force him back further, away from her (19 vs. 11).
The Twin stumbles backwards, rolling towards the trees, before looking up, eyes glowing and hands gnashing. He turns and charges for Stiles, trying to get a grip on him himself (16).]
( Stiles doesn't react quickly enough (14), so whatever twin #1's intentions are when charging, he succeeds.
"Stiles!"
Scott locks eyes with twin #2, he spends his turn going full wolf and tries an alpha roar to shut. it. down. or, if anything, to scare the shit out of her (18).
And it's Stiles turn to try and sink his teeth into twin #1's neck (18) and if it succeeds, he'll start to drink to get the twin to LET GO )
[Yeah, that works. She stumbles backwards, eyes flashing in response to an actual, honest to God alpha attempting to subdue her (11). She glances back to her brother, before holding up her hands, teeth gnashing.
She watches as her brother manages to get the upper hand on Stiles (20) slipping out of the way and putting some distance between him and the vampire and the werewolf.
Buffered by the move, she turns back on Scott and tries to charge him (12), teeth going for his throat.]
( Scott gets a (9), crying out when her hand makes contact with Scott's neck.
Nails out, he tries striking her with his nails, sinking them into her arm. But, from the angle he's at and the pain he didn't anticipate, he drops one knee down. (3) )
[Cora glances between Scott and Stiles, unsure who to help, her alpha or her potential something. But despite Twin 1 dodging him, they seem to be on more even ground, so Cora chooses Scott. She swings towards Twin 2, claws out and ready to strike (16).
Twin 2 swipes around, dodging Cora's strike (20), before drawing more on Scott. She looks up at Cora, eyes glowing and grins. "You really want to do this? Because he may be able to heal, but eventually I'm going to outpace that."
Cora snarls, but it's not her turn anymore.
Twin 1, on the other hand, stays focused on Stiles. Now that he knows what he's dealing with, he reaches up, breaking a branch off one of the trees and flipping it around in his hand. "Eat shit, Fang Boy." And then he'll charge forward and attempt to stab him with his stick (16).]
( Stiles, distracted by Scott's plight and slighted by the sudden insult is stabbed (5) but, not in the heart because of that (16?). But, seeing as it is Stiles turn, he tries to play through the pain to break Twin 1's arm: (4) to grab on. But, for a new vampire, pain during combat is exponentially worse, coupling it with worry for his best friend.
Scott is not doing much better, trying to claw and swipe at Twin 2 across the torso (16).
Scott gets a (10) to do anything with a text message he can't answer and Stiles a (17) for a bonus phone-related action - but WHY - so, he most certainly notices the vibration of a text, but will not be doing anything about it. )
[Twin one just barely manages to dodge that grasp, annoyed that he missed the heart (6). He pulls back to try and charge in again (11), but as he does, Cora tips her head back and howls, and he falters at the sound.
Is it the most productive way to call for help? Maybe not. But Lydia will know what it means, and that's the best they can hope for. And after that, Cora's going to turn and dig in to the one attacking Stiles (15 vs. 6) and the Twin 1 cries out in pain.
Twin 2 also cries out as Scott's claws dig in, twisting away from the alpha's claws (4). She almost loses her grip, but attempts to swing back at him again (14).]

Stiles is right. He wasn't killed here.

There are two. Maybe. Two entry points - two wounds. And bruising.

[She moves closer to peer over Scott's shoulder so she can see the picture. And then she swears.]
That's a lamprey. They're rare - I've never met one but I've seen pictures of the wounds.

Is it - do they eat that way, or are they just killing? ( And one thing occurs to him. ) The lampreys could be anyone.

C'mon. If we don't keep moving the trail's going to get cold.
