I have a rather ambitious project, and he's probably the most knowledgeable person about magic on the planet. So I tracked him down, made him a pitch, and he decided to help.

So, he'll stick to the part that affects him and his sister and not the part where he has a say in who she hits it off with. She has a right to choose her partner. [Actually, she figures that her romantic life isn't the thing that Julian is going to have a problem with. It's this, the project itself, the thing that indicates she's already made a decision, if she can crack the code of the magic.]
Allowing someone once a witch but not a siphon to do magic if they're turned into a vampire.
[For one. But Kol gives her access to that, and is the reason she ingratiated herself to him in the first place.]
I need a vampire who was a witch before. I need someone who was a vampire, but is now a witch, and I need someone who is a vampire but can cast magic. And getting two out of those three things has required a lot of trust building.
[Kol wasn't just going to offer up his human sister and niece for experimentation, no matter how formidable they are on their own.]
If I can figure out how the magic works on vampires, but what the difference is between someone who's cured and also someone who can still do it, then maybe I can create a spell to turn it off.
When he agreed to these terms, we weren't ... what we are now.
[Which is different, but there hasn't been a reason to renegotiate the terms. She hasn't really made much progress. But she knows that there's a point where they'll have to have that conversation.]
Renegotiate, Kier. You hear yourself? You're still talking like this is all a business arrangement. Have you talked since your terms -- turned personal?
( He's trying to be there for her, to just be her brother. He's trying hard not to bring what he feels to this, because it's not about him. He got caught doing the dumb thing. His leg he could stand on has been shaved down considerably. )
( He's never seen it before from his sister, maybe he hasn't tried to see it. But he can't miss it this time around. )
I know it's the same thing. I know I tried worse - desperately - I just need to know you've thought this over. Every angle and I know pot, kettle. Just. Humor your brother.
The vampire part? Yeah, I'm sure. There's no non-vampire way out of this for me, and I'm well aware that I might not have enough time to solve the magic part before ...
[Before she has to do what she has to do. While she isn't one hundred percent sure she could give up her magic for a little while if it means she'd stay alive, she wants to be alive. In the end, that's the important thing.]
I still want to try. To figure out if I can get what I want and not have to compromise.
( It's still the one thing he has the hardest trouble wrapping his mind around so he bellows his exclamation again. But, the important things were addressed and he can sleep 10% more soundly. Which still ain't much. )
