[He nods as he passes the plate to her so that she can take her pick.]
I was catching up with Tyler. Erica ran off with a full bottle of vodka so she's probably getting Elena's kids drunk and I'm pretty Stiles is investigating shady government organizations and may put a murder board on a wall before the night is out but otherwise, everything's fine.
[None of those are actual problems, in the grand scheme of things.]
She's been asking a lot of questions and I've been trying to answer them. I think she's still trying to figure out where she lands, though she said she's definitely going back to New Orleans with Derek.
Do you think that's the best place for her after the way that things went with Derek the first time?
( She's not trying to disparage Derek, but she genuinely wants to know his opinion. It's just Bonnie, so he gets a little more color and commentar in his question. )
[Inside, the first thing she sees is a folded up piece of lined paper with a handwritten note. It pops out almost immediately into her face, but first glance shows it to be Danny's handwriting.
Underneath the note is a simple charm necklace - not overtly expensive, but still good quality jewelry. Most of them show that this was originally Isaac's gift, as the charms seem to bear hallmarks of their relationship, specifically their time in Prague: things like a tiny motorcycle, a pewter castle, and a simple version of the clocktower. Touchstones for when they shifted to them, for better or worse.
Only one charm is different, but it is familiar. The charm is cast in silver like the rest, but she would recognize it as the sigil of the Knightsbridge coven.
Danny's message reads:]
Bonnie,
Happy Christmas. I would have liked to have been there to give it to you in person, but things didn't work out that way and that's okay. You can't always be with the people you love for the holidays, but I hope you are enjoying your time with yours.
I wanted to say thank you for taking care of me this year. I know I probably wasn't always the easiest to handle. I was pretty angry, and pretty lonely, but I would have been a lot more alone had it not been for you. If I'm honest, I probably wouldn't have made it through this year without you. So thank you.
Isaac was gracious enough to let me hijack his gift. Don't let him pretend that he didn't do most of the work - he deserves the credit. But the Knightsbridge charm was my gift to you. It's to say that even if you aren't an active part of the coven, or if you're far away, you'll always be a part of us, and we won't forget how you helped us. That you'll always be part of my family too.
Hopefully I'll get to see you soon. But until then, I hope you have a happy New Year.
( She tears up, reading the note, before picking the charm up by it's chain. She holds the charms against her hand, eyes lighting up before finding Isaac's. Her fist closes around the charms as she leans forward for a bracing hug. )
( She sits back, a few tears threatening to creep down and pushes her mouth to his quickly. Answering him before leaning back again and looking down at the necklace. She nods, a few tears crawling down her face. But, she's happy and is definitely smiling. )
You both did good. ( She holds it out to him and turns in her seat. ) Help me with it?
[He nods, reaching for the clasp on the necklace and draping it over her neck, and joining the two ends. He then lets it drop, checking to make sure it hangs well.]
It's a good length? Because we can get it adjusted if not.

( Because that doesn't sound surprising to Isaac. )
Everything else sounds good, though. Elena's kids, taking after us. Better watch out, or they'll round a group up and go to the Falls.

[He knows he also left for a reason but he has a long life ahead of him now. There's a chance he could go back one day.]
It might be good for Erica to get into some old fashioned teenage trouble. She didn't really get a lot of it when we were kids.

( She can imagine the string he probably goes through. You don't know the half of it, Bonnie! )
Now she can. How are you doing with her being here? Have you two talked?

[He's had time to move on from his own grief that he was still trying to process.]
And Scott's in New Orleans these days too. He's been spending a lot of time with Davina Claire.

( She's glad Derek's evolved. )
Scott is still your alpha, even though everyone is scattered?
no subject
I don't think I would trust anyone else.
[Maybe Derek now, if he hadn't known Derek then. But Scott really is the best fit.]
And pack is family. It's not ... proximity.

( And, kind of, Buffy, and maybe Dawn if those friendships still coalesce. )

Very much like that.
[He pauses, before shifting into his pocket and pulling out a slim, wrapped box and passes it over to her.]
Speaking of family at a distance, I was asked to deliver this to you. I also contributed some, but Danny wanted to make sure you got it on Christmas.

You - thank you, Isaac. ( She has to thank Danny. She misses him.
With that, she looks down again, unwrapping and then opening the box. )

I think it's perfect, Isaac.

[He leans in to kiss her softly.]
Merry Christmas, Bonnie.
