Silver is for shapeshifters and zombies, holy water is for demons. They react to it - they smoke. And then they tend to react poorly after that so you better be ready for a fight.
[She pauses then makes a face.]
Demons are trickier, you gotta have a Devil's trap ready and then perform an exorcism but if it's a shapeshifter, you can just stab them with the silverware.
