( Anya died with a whimper. No, she died with a shriek as she was cut from behind. A sword did it. It's always a freaking sword. Not with a bang, however. She was cut down. A casualty. There are casualties in war. She knows this. Dungeons and Dragons taught her this the night before her death.
But, Anya's death was noble. It didn't signal D'Hoffryn or Halfreck or any of the lesser gods. She was human. So she died, human.
She blinks and she exists again. They're in a bar in Hope Springs, Idaho.
She's heard the spiel before. It was way more flashy when she was a maiden in the dark ages. It appealed to her petty nature. But, you seen it once, you see it all. She's seen gods, "gods" and demons of all levels. They always toot their own horns and inevitably, they get impaled on one of their own horns.
He tells her she isn't a vengeance demon. She's something else. His conduit. She'll pass. Her days of working under men is over. (Even vengeance led with the patriarchy.) Is that it, she asks?
He details her life. Snippets. Not the gory details, but enough of it that she buys something in his eyes. Who are you, she asks.
He only says, Chuck.
He explains to her that he was expelled from a great power he'd always held onto and that he has a several step process to get it back. If she helps him, she can get whatever her heart's desire. Xander Harris. Xander Harris' entrails. Demon queen. She could run an empire. Her choice when and where, ultimately. When he's done, they will have one timeline. His.
It's when he drops the "God" bomb, she lets out big old belly laugh. As the narrative touched on, she'd heard it all. But never God. He tells her things she never told anyone. Not even Xander. Don't worry, he can't read her mind. He's not of a level of power he once was. He's just a regular guy vibing on a different frequency from everyone else. He lets her know he's slipped through. He's not this Chuck. Her head hurts from the description of the several Chuck's across several worlds he wasn't able to obliterate, but this is a world he managed a foothold. She's his first recruit, but she won't be his last.
She has nothing better. And, she can relate. Every decision she made was in the guise of being her own decision. But, really, was it?
Chuck is the endgame. Her end wasn't fair when people like Xander Harris get to live. Get to judge you and leave you at the altar and still have friends and a life. He's laying it on thick, but she sees his point. What does Buffy have to do with this? Oh, he has plans for her. He has plans for everyone.
With the pieces moving at a snail's pace - and she would know, she turned a man into a snail once, she's practically vibrating out of her skin when she's allowed to reach out to Chuck's first subject he's woken. She's not alone, there with backup, both to convince him, and to defend her if things go south. She is something else. But she doesn't have her power.

John Diggle Jr. Finally, we meet. ( A beat, as the moment just lingers, and the evil air drops. Because, this is Anya Christina Emanuella Jenkins. She speaks in her regular voice as she hacks a bit. ) Sorry, sorry, I haven't done that, in, like, twenty years? And before that, like, maybe thirty. It's a little too guttural and without the link to the other plane it just comes off scratchy.
[JJ turns to face her, eyes roaming over her figure in a way that could be considered checking her out, but isn't really. He's assessing, looking for all of the weak points and information that her physical appearance has to offer. He straightens, taking a step closer as he tries to decide how to play this.]
