When he wakes up, we give him a choice.

[Which is more than she got. She never really understood what was happening to her until after, and the choice was already made.]

If he wants to complete the transition, we'll get him blood. If he doesn't, we can make him comfortable. But he doesn't leave that room until he's decided one way or another.

It's frustrating, but we've had too many people who didn't intend to become vampires get turned because Mystic Falls was being Mystic Falls. We want to make sure that what happens is what he wants. And if he does turn, he's my responsibility, so I'll start teaching him everything he needs to know.

Almost twenty years ago? I was seventeen.

[Worst time to become a vampire: getting stuck in a filler year. But she's moved past it at this point, even if she's going to essentially look illegal forever.

But also there's a look on both her and Jo's face that says "what are you getting at?"]

Look, I'm not saying being a vampire is easy. It's not. Everything is heightened and your emotions are all over the place and you died. It sucks. But it's Stiles' choice and if he chooses vampire, I'll make sure he has the tools to handle it.

[Caroline's face flickers, and she opens her mouth as though she's about to comment, and Jo reaches forward to stop her but before either of them can say anything, Lydia's at the door staring Dean down.]

What qualifies as misusing his toolkit, exactly?

[She crosses her arms in front of her chest.]

Is it killing someone in self-defense? Or if it's an accident? Are you going to go after the seven bloodlines? Because they kill people as humans - becoming werewolves is their punishment. You spent an entire evening in a house full of killers and seemed to get along with them just fine. None of our hands are clean.

[Even hers. She might not have been completely aware of herself when she killed Valek, but she doesn't regret it either. He had it coming.]

I just want to know where the line is because if you're going to run around threatening to kill my best friend - again - I want to know what the seemingly arbitrary rules are.

Killing someone. Meaning to kill someone. Luring. Pulling together a nest, going after a town. You want to take responsibility, then what he does, it's on you. Or, her, or your school. But, if he goes into the world and blood gets the better of him, and he's dangerous. Not accidental-dangerous. Not defensively dangerous. Meaning to rip someone's throat out. Dangerous.

( Don't talk to him about murder, about killing. He's a killer. He's killed more than you have, Lydia. He assumes. And more than Caroline twenty-years Forbes. Try thirty-five. He doesn't apologize for how honest he needs to be. This is how he was raised. Werewolves, he knows, they can be something. Vampires... he's always had the problem with.

Elena's hurt. Maybe that's influencing him, too, Elena being in the supernatural web. )

[Sam's face grimaces, because he knows that making these threats when the guy hasn't even made the choice whether or not to turn is probably not the best way to ingratiate yourself to a grieving banshee.

He places a hand on his brother's shoulder and pulls him back slightly.]

Look, tension's running pretty high right now. Why don't Dean and I go get everyone some coffee?

[Jo nods in agreement. "That's a great idea. By the time you get back, Elena will probably be out of imaging and we'll have some better answers as to her status."]

( Dean 'Non-Apology' Winchester breaks his intense gaze in Lydia's direction and heads past Caroline, with Sam, toward either the first coffee machine they find. )

Dude. He doesn't even know he needs to make a choice yet.

Who do you know that chooses that choice, Sam. Vampire or no vampire? It's like Deal or No Deal. No deal, Sam. And the sooner they accept that, the sooner they'll stop seeing me as the bad guy. How many times have we given that speech? It comes with the hunter handbook. They need to know that if he chooses a briefcase with control issues, we will come back.

( As intense as it was, he stands by it. He's not going to apologize. )

[And he's not saying it's the choice that he would make, at the end of the day, but they can't make that choice for him.]

And the McCall pack doesn't run things the way we're used to. He won't be alone. He might stand a chance of making it out okay.
