Yeah, I don't either, but who'd be surprised. Now, vampire-Earnest. That I've never seen. Or heard about, but uh yeah, I'm a month - two, new. Maybe three. I tucked my tail between my legs and buried myself in my work. But, less than half a year.

( Not a newborn but not even close to a toddler. )

Aww, you're a baby.

[She means that fondly, not critically. She shifts to lean back against the wall of the elevator as they wait for some kind of rescue.]

It's a lot, when you're first adjusting. But hey, you got a lucky era to be turned in. Access to bagged blood makes things so much easier.

[phonetically]

And yet still not the get it feels like.

( But, she's right about the convenience. )

Bagged blood doesn't exactly help with everything else that comes with it. I didn't choose this. I know that's most other vampires, grr-arrgh, this happened to me, but I didn't. And then, I didn't want to die die, so why not just turn.

[thefaxwhisperer]

I can see why it might look like the more appealing option over death. And honestly, the fact that you did get a choice is good. I didn't.

[Well, that's not entirely true. But she didn't have a real choice.]

By the time I realized what was happening to me, I had already fed. So after that, there was no going back.

[phonetically]

I was also there with my best friend, the other redhead. Lydia. What was I supposed to do, stay mortal and noble and just -- die sooner?

( Instead of never? )

If that's what you wanted, maybe.

[Donna holds up her hand and brushes it to the side.]

People always make this decision about other people, and maybe it's true that you can't make a decision in a vacuum. But think about it now, while we're stuck here. If you think back to that moment - did you really want to die?

[phonetically]

No. Of course not. I have my dark thoughts and some days it's next to impossible to get out of bed but I have a job to do and a father to make proud and a, a life to live.

( Is that a good enough answer? )

Then that's what matters.

[Her tone's a bit softer, more of the Mama Bear Donna, but sometimes they need a reminder that it's okay to want to live and still be a part of the world.]

Sure, there are some downsides to that choice, and it's not perfect, but no life is perfect. You got to keep yours, so now it's up to you to go after what you want and live it how you want to.

[phonetically]

( Like magic, the elevator groans to life, jolts, and the lights return. He points. )

Okay, so, metaphor.

Seems the random magic was trying to prove a point after all.

[She looks back down at her phone and makes a face as she hits the button for the lobby.]

Can't say the same for my phone though.

[But it's fine. She'll get a new one - Harvey certainly pays her enough.]

I'm Donna, by the way.

[phonetically]

Stiles. You know, your boy Harvey was doing some shady witch business in the hospital I transitioned in.

( He's not incriminating, just pointing out everyone has something in common. )

Yeah, they pay a very hefty retainer. Though these days we're more selective about who's butts we're covering.

[Donna likes David. Shady or not, she'll encourage Harvey to have his back. Besides, in her opinion there's very little witch business that isn't shady these days, because even the good ones can get pushed into dark corners. But that's not really the point.]

He's young. You make mistakes when you're young.

[Harvey is not that young, but, you know. Vampire years skew things.]

[phonetically]

I'm young. Do we all get enough rope to hang ourselves with?

( He asks that, the elevator travels downward, dings, and opens to the lobby. )
