Everyone's flinging around the word doppelganger. It doesn't take a clumsy cheerleader to see that this witch is trying to use you for something. Some oncoming war.
[That drags him back to the present. He isn't in Mystic Falls, he's in Scotland, and he's in trouble. Big trouble, if "doppelganger" is the word of the day.]
A friend called when we were able to charge my phone. Apparently one of the covens is starting some kind of witch war called the Gauntlet.
[But he doesn't seem keen to elaborate on why while trapped in his own head, and he would hope that Rhett understands his haste. He goes to one of the windows and tries to see if he can get it open (3 vs. 3) and he does get it open a smidge, but after is held in some kind of stalemate.]
( Rhett is not an expert on Stefan's room, but he is an expert in such a spell. )
These spells are meant to preoccupy you. To trap you in the familiar, even though they aren't anything of the sort. Either something is out of place, or there is something personal to you, something that can act as a key.
[At that, Stefan allows himself to refocus, going over his room with sharp eye, but for someone he doesn't know, the room is reconstructed pretty faithfully (11). He tries to narrow his attention, and then his eyes fall on the bookcases along the walls.]
It's in the journals.
[Because even if he did figure it out, she would have wanted him to waste time.]
[Stefan will save him some time, and reach for the journals written in the years where he and Rhett actually knew each other, to increase his odds of recognizing any inaccuracies.]

( It would be, but Damon made a poor attempt at being a male cheerleader. He skims to find the corresponding years and begins perusing. He really doesn't see anything as out of place (2) and finds Stefan's prose quite flowery. )

[He misses her so much. He thinks she would have really liked Buffy, after making fun of him for having no survival instinct.
Stefan keeps skimming, hoping that he can quickly catch the answer when he stops somewhere in the 1920s (20). It's not her fault - she was likely trying to make sense of his memories as best she could, but mentions of missing Rebekah and Klaus after that night in Chicago didn't exist.
They couldn't, if Klaus compelled him.]
Guess who's not going to tell Klaus Mikaelson that him messing with his memories might have saved my life.
[Not Stefan. He gives the journal a shake and the key drops out into his palm.]
( Scarlett had quite the soft spot for Damon in the intervening years, and Rhett for Stefan, but he does not know the vampire well. Luckily, Stefan knows his own history. Rhett's knowledge of Stefan's and Klaus' friendship is more sordid and involves coerscion, mostly because the 20's were compelled away.
That Klaus Mikaelson gets any 'props' at all says something. )

( The key fits, twists, and they are back in the basement, Beck keeping a firearm on Lorden and Damon lording over them with crossed arms.
Stefan wakes up, quite suddenly, not like he's been asleep, but like adrenaline has been injected straight into his heart. )
[Yep. He almost flinches awake, eyes darting around as he takes in the situation, and immediately goes for the IV in his arm, pulling it out and tossing it to the side. Unfortunately, that's the only burst of energy he gets, because it's been a while since he's fed and now he's got blood loss to contend with.
He does try to push himself to his feet, though, attempting to get out of the circle until he collides with the barrier. He then scans until he sees the witch and narrows his eyes.]
Let me out.
["I don't want to," she smirks, and in response Scarlett twists her heel down on some soft part of her body, and she gives a sharp sound of pain.]
( Rhett gets himself to his feet, Damon just narrows his eyes.
"Well, at least we know she didn't link herself to him. Brother," Damon says. "Whatever you did do to him, undo it. Like now." With everyone awake and present, Beck hands Damon the gun and retreats upstairs to the ladder Damon remembers. He finds it quickly (18), determined as he is to free everyone and save Stefan.
He lumbers back down with the ladder, as he turns, he "accidentally" hits Lordan in the head with it.
[Stefan glances up at he area around him, and this is why it's usually good to have a witch around. But when he sees the bucket over his head, he looks a smidge concerned.]
Please make sure you don't spill that while you're doing whatever you're about it do. I can feel the heat from here.
[Lindsay manages to steady her wayward fiance (12), but between Buffy and Rhett, they're able to take the major threat - the kill switch - off the table. It doesn't stop the barrier spell, but the witch loses her leverage.
Scarlett looks down at her with a wide, dangerous smile, and ends this unfortunate stand-off with a quick snap of the neck. And with that, the barrier flickers and Stefan is free.]
( Damon pulls his brother out of the circle, Buffy awaits her turn and tugs Stefan close. He scared her, but she knows it's not his fault. Beck and Lindsay have their own reunion, as do Rhett and Scarlett who are less demonstrative with a touch of their hands. )

( Damon lifts gymrat by his scruff.
"Promise me, this is the end of whatever she was cooking up.")
