hey it's good to be back home again
[It's been a while since Stefan has been back in Mystic Falls, but he wasn't going to miss the twins graduation. He knew that coming home was going to be complicated. He was bringing his girlfriend to meet people. He was bracing himself for Damon's judgement about him dating a vampire slayer the entire ride from the airport.
What he hadn't expected, was getting ambushed at a gas station while filling up his car by a hunter.
According to Damon, there haven't been hunters in Mystic Falls in years. They knew that the school would be a beacon, but they also took precautions for that to protect the kids. Most hunters understood that they were trying to reduce deaths, rather than concentrate them. This isn't to say that Mystic Falls is perfect, but they're doing better than they used to.
Stefan doesn't kill him. He's caught off guard enough that he doesn't immediately go for the kill, and Buffy catches the hunter off guard enough that the guy decides to retreat and regroup rather than push his luck against a slayer and a vampire. This isn't, unfortunately, before he manages to plug Stefan with a few wooden bullets. And those hurt like a mother.]
Gotta love coming home.
[He groans as he sinks back against the car, trying to keep an eye on their surroundings, before glancing down at the bleeding holes in his shirt.]
I liked this shirt.

At least get eyes on him. ( He considers it, pursing his lips. ) We roll up, I got the wrong end of something's claw. ( They could. He's cut himself for less. He looks to Elena, though. ) Let's pay and then regroup outside.
( And by regroup, he's going to get Elena a little more Katherine. She'll need to take her hair down, run her hands through it, maybe flip it back. No earrings. Maybe she has heels or something different in the trunk.
But, he'll tell her this once they get outside and back to the Impala. Sorry, Elena. He doesn't mean you're not good enough, he just means -- you need to be able to fit in. And Katherine has a look to her. )
Are you good with that?
no subject
It's not as though Katherine hasn't tried to be Elena more than once.
She reaches up to tug out her ponytail and makes her way over to her car to pull out a change of clothes and a make up bag, usually saved for rushing to a Founders event after finishing a shift at the hospital.]
You have to tell me everything she's been doing. If I'm going to be her, I have to do my homework.

Elena nods as well, before gathering her things.]
Just let me get changed, and you can fill me in on the way.
[And with that, she'll disappear into the diner bathroom to give herself a light Katherine transformation. There's nothing she can do about her hair to make it curly right here right now, but she can change her body language enough to make it work.
And before she leaves, she'll send a text to Stefan, filling him in and asking to send a quick text to someone who could screw it for her if they weren't made aware. Stefan agrees, and once that's done, she makes her way out to the car, trying to refamiliarize herself with Katherine's strut as she does.]
So. We doing this, or what?
no subject
We're uh - Sam? We're. Doin, this. Let's do it.
no subject
She does like people who like nice things.
Eventually, they pull up to the bar in question, and she looks it over, before giving her hair a light toss.]
So what's our story? Are we sticking with the one of us got injured idea?
no subject
What do you think, Sammy?
no subject
We could make it seem like we want to join the cause. Would Katherine go for that?
[Elena makes a face. "Duplicity is her stronger suit. But the bigger question is will they go for her."]
That's a good point.
no subject
( He considers both, hand tapping the wheel behind him as he faces Elena and Sam. )
What's our goal here? Find the guy and get him alone? Shake him for information? ( He looks to Elena, then Sam. ) Or, do get our hands on his phone. Forget breaking him with torture, we can just break his encryption. Eh? ( Smart, right? ) Which means, injured.
no subject
[And then she glances between the two of them because which one of them is getting the injury.]

With a sigh, but still ready, Dean climbs out of the car, heading back into an empty alley. Elena can follow he and Sam, but it's really just going to be Sam holding a blade against his brother's upper arm. )
Go deep enough.
no subject
No, not there.
[She moves and adjusts his hand to a different part of his arm.]
It'll bleed like crazy but won't do any long term damage.
no subject
no subject
Okay, let's do this.
[Then she'll let Sam support his brother while she takes the lead, strutting in like she owns the place, Katherine style.]
There a doctor in the house?
[Puns on top of puns.]

Grady's is not a packed hunter bar, not surprisingly, considering the big moves being made this week. But, there are a few barflies and a bartender.
Sam helps Dean in behind Elena. )
Damn vampire.
( Dean moves his hand to look down at it, faking a half-faint against his younger brother.
Despite the blood bath, the bartender reaches under and pulls out a shotgun.
"Who wants to know?" she asks. )
no subject
[She plasters on a fake smile and her best innocent face.]
Hi. I'm Katherine, and that's Sam and Dean. Now with that out of the way, can we settle this blood situation?
no subject
"In the back, down the stairs."
no subject
[And with that she'll gesture for Sam and Dean to take the lead, eyes scanning the room as she follows behind them, looking for any sign of interest or concern that might get them into trouble.]
no subject
Sam helps Dean to the backdoor and down the steps.
It's a good fifteen minutes of pure bullshit on "Katherine's" part, but this bartender isn't looking for anything out of the ordinary. He just asks about what kind of vamp, if it was a nest, where it was. He seems more into the gory story than her seriously injured friend.
Unbeknownst to Elena, Dean and Sam make off with more than they intended, especially once the hunter downstairs recognizes them and realizes it's a set up. But, there's a melee and the Winchesters win out.
There's also a cellar door back the other way, so Elena and the others don't see the addition in the trunk.
It's Dean that comes back up the stairs, hand around the wrapped bandaging. )
My brother's taking a leak. He'll be right up. Wait outside?
( He asks the question to Elena as the bartender nods. She goes about her business wiping down the bar. She doesn't seem to care or blink.
Once outside, Sam has the Impala at the curb and running. Dean hurries her into the back and Dean goes around to the front.
They're off. )
no subject
That was fast.
[Understatement.]
no subject
( His arm still stings, and he's going to redo the stitches with Sam's help later tonight, he's decided, but it worked. )
Things went sideways. We improvised.
no subject
Things went sideways how?
no subject
...Probably should the next day, if not tonight. )
We were recognized. Turns out the hunter didn't just drive straight here. He saw me, he saw you. We weren't expected, but -- we were burned. The doctor will be fine, he just took a nap.
no subject
What about the hunter?
[Sam winces and looks back at her. "He's in the trunk."
Elena's face runs a gammit of unclear emotions at first, but she then reaches for her phone. She sees the missed call from Damon and bypasses it for a text.]
I've got a hunter for you to compel.
no subject
( Is that the point, though?
Are the apocalypse brothers bringing him? )
