[Miranda has opinions on that. But after taking a moment to make sure that no one is listening, she can't help but joke:]

Is that better or worse than a Winchester?
founderscouncil: (there's a harsh truth)

[personal profile] founderscouncil 2024-12-21 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Worse. ( He lowers his voice. ) The Dean here, in that cave, he's a far cry from the kid without table manners.

( And nobody's mentioned their father. )

He wouldn't be my choice, but neither would a hero vampire.

He did save her. And she's still here.

[Meaning he probably didn't eat her. But there's something else that they said that sticks with her.]

Jeremy said she sees them as people. And he seems to think that's a good thing.

I know.

( And he is grateful for that. But, the other stuff. )

I heard him.

( It was a dig at their legacy, at how he was raised, at everything he knows. )

She sure wanted us to know.

I think that she's had that bottled up for a long time, and it's hard to confront someone with it when they're dead.

[She doesn't think that was Elena's intent, to confront them with all of this, but she can't help but feel like these things were bubbling for her for a while.]

It seems we have a lot to adjust to.
founderscouncil: (there were good times)

Whether we like it or not.

( They missed the raising part. Their kids did what they did, after. And maybe, in spite of them? They can't know. )

Why didn't you ever tell me about Mikael?

[She takes a deep breath, because there were many reasons. She was ashamed, a little, of what she forced her best friend to do and what it cost Shelia and Bonnie. But more importantly...]

If she was going to stay hidden, you couldn't look at her differently. And I wasn't sure what the Council in their ... infinite wisdom had to say about doppelgangers.
founderscouncil: (there's something else)

[personal profile] founderscouncil 2024-12-21 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
She's our daughter.

( He doesn't know what he would've done, or if he would've involved the council. Maybe, he would've. He'd like to lie to himself, say he could've set his honor aside. )

What is a doppelganger?

[personal profile] happiness_elude 2024-12-21 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you'll have to ask Elena that. She probably understands it more than I ever did.

[Abby didn't fully understand it either, because back then, no one knew where the doppelgangers came from.]

But Abby said that their blood is used in spells - usually very powerful ones.

[personal profile] founderscouncil 2024-12-21 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
And Abby Bennett, she was a witch. Who cast spells.

( He's just -- trying to sort everything right now. )

[She nods.]

The Bennett witches go all the way back to 1864. Possibly beyond that, but John Gilbert mentioned Emily in his journals. She was probably the one who made most of his devices work.

[Not that she wants to impugn his ancestor's creative genius but ... knowing what she knows about the Bennetts now, it's clear.]
founderscouncil: (there's something up there)

( He doesn't like how much that makes sense, and how it reframes a lot of their history. But, hasn't everything been reframed now. )

You know, she threw her vampire boyfriend at us pretty early. Like, she needed us to hear her.

[personal profile] happiness_elude 2024-12-21 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
She had to start at the beginning.

[And Stefan was pretty damn close to the beginning, given the last thing she remembers.]

But I agree. I think it certainly ... set the tone.
founderscouncil: (there's a body)

[personal profile] founderscouncil 2024-12-21 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
There's more.

( He can feel it in his bones. )

It feels like we're just scratching the surface.

[personal profile] happiness_elude 2024-12-21 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know if I can handle more.

[It's all so complicated and it feels like after she died, a landslide came down on top of her children that she couldn't stop.]

But that's not very fair, is it?
founderscouncil: (there's a file)

[personal profile] founderscouncil 2024-12-21 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's both. Hard to hear and not fair. If I had the choice, I -- don't know what I'd want to know. We can tell them we don't need to, that they can keep to what's relevant when it's relevant. Start fresh.

( Surprises would come in short bursts. )

But, would that be fair to them. And all we'd do is be postponing the inevitable.

[personal profile] happiness_elude 2024-12-21 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I think we should let them to decide that.

[Miranda nods slowly.]

It's their story to tell. We should let them tell it.
founderscouncil: (there's underneath)

[personal profile] founderscouncil 2024-12-21 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I think so, too. As much as it makes me want to punch a wall.

( An impulse he is not following through with. He just feels powerless. And out of touch. And time. )

How are you taking it?
happiness_elude: (8)

[personal profile] happiness_elude 2024-12-21 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Not well.

[She feels like she is far, far out of her depth and both of her children are far from the lives that she wanted for them. But she has to deal with the reality that they're living in.

She shifts, leaning into him with a sigh.]

But I'll figure it out.
founderscouncil: (there's so much missed)

[personal profile] founderscouncil 2024-12-21 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
We'll figure it out, together.

( One hour at a time, apparently. )
