[Carroll shrugs in response to that question because he can't say he's sure either way. It isn't so much as him not knowing what to do with his life, but more not really sure where he would be successful with his ... limitations. Staying in the moment, being proactive? Not really one of his strong suits unless there's a life-or-death situation on the line.

And he doesn't think he'd be a good first responder. Not with what he would gravitate towards.

He likes the law - or at least likes archiving it. He likes reading through the reasoned arguments and applying them to the cases needed here. He doesn't think he would be a good lawyer, though, so where does he go from paralegal?

That's a question for another time.]

It's definitely not boring.
aurapoints: (you ordered honesty?)

[personal profile] aurapoints 2025-06-16 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
( He doubts that, because the law sounds boring, but he's not about to yuck his brother's yum. He likes seeing him focused on something. And not too focused as he's forced to be. He likes when he plays fast and loose with his decisions, settles in, lets himself be. None of his brothers or him are the careful sort, really. Maybe Barrie with his girls. But, Carroll moves through the world a little differently. )

Well, good on ya'. Finding somewhere. Finding your people. Or, a people. ( He gives a look around. ) I like it in here. You can see everything. All the glass. People can't hide. Lawyers have it right.

[Carroll raises an eyebrow before shaking his head.]

You would hate it here. This is corporate law. They skirt the truth all day long.
aurapoints: (disappoint)

[personal profile] aurapoints 2025-06-18 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
They game the system. A system built against most of us.

( Some more than others. He likes the idea of the law, but his brother is right. It would bore him to tears. )

You do this because you believe in it, right? You load their gun with bullets and tell 'em where to aim.

( It's an important job. )

[personal profile] practicallyinvisible 2025-06-18 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
[He pauses as he thinks it over. Liking it is one thing, but believing in it is something he hasn't quite gotten to yet. All he knows is that it works best for his particular ... limitations.]

It's not like we're helping the helpless. But getting to help on the pro-bono cases is nice.
aurapoints: (point)

[personal profile] aurapoints 2025-06-18 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
That's how you get pro-bono, right? With money from the other cases.

( There's a pipeline to it. You help the helpless by helping the people with money. Deep pockets for the people without 'em. )
practicallyinvisible: (10)

[personal profile] practicallyinvisible 2025-06-18 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
True. And Harvey and the partners are good people. Mostly.

[He just does get a little bored with the cases that only involve moving money around for rich people.]
aurapoints: (lip bite)

[personal profile] aurapoints 2025-06-18 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Read up on Harvey Specter. GQ did a profile of him. But, rumor has it Jessica Pearson's the big deal. You landed among the stars, Carr.

( He likes her style. Likes everything about her in fact.

He does have a question as he leans forward again. He's always been nig on national and international news items. So, someone in the group he left looks familiar.
)

Is that Connor Walsh?
practicallyinvisible: (14)

[personal profile] practicallyinvisible 2025-06-18 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

[Carroll knows what his brother is referring to and he's choosing to ignore it, beyond answering the question anyway.]

Why?
aurapoints: (surprise)

[personal profile] aurapoints 2025-06-18 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
You're just hobnobbing with some personalities is all.

( Connor did his time and all that. Had a profile done on him, too, likely with Donna's help and influence. But, there are still rumors he was involved in multiple murders. He takes high profile to a new level. )
practicallyinvisible: (11)

[personal profile] practicallyinvisible 2025-06-18 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Connor's a good guy.

[Despite his reputation. Despite what he's done. He doesn't have his brother's nose for liars, but he likes to think that he has good instincts about these things.]
aurapoints: (how it is)

[personal profile] aurapoints 2025-06-18 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, you work with the guy. I'm cool.

( It might be different if there were more, but they don't discuss those things. At least, he doesn't ask. His brother's relationships are his own. Cormac's been with the same girl for a few years now.

Loyal to a fault. (Or, so he believes, right now.)

Cormac won't cause any trouble. He's not the judgmental brother.
)

Lois is meeting me out front after my shift, so don't wait up, yeah?
practicallyinvisible: (11)

[personal profile] practicallyinvisible 2025-06-18 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
[Carroll doesn't have relationships so much as starts and stops. For right now, he considers Connor dangerously close to a friend, and he doesn't have many of those.]

Cool. Have fun then.

[He has opinions about Lois he's keeping to himself. She's nice enough, but he feels like she's not as into him as he is to her and that will cause problems later. But Cormac doesn't interfere in his relationships so he returns the favor.

And he'll pick up the glass from the bar before tipping his head back to the group.]

Tell Lois I said hey.
relationshipstatus: (attentive)

[personal profile] relationshipstatus 2025-06-18 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
( "She probably wants a lunch tomorrow. Let me know if you want me to run interference." Because, Lois is a talker. And she cares about family. And assumes that all of his downtime should be spent with the brother closest in proximity. Yes, he did lie when Brogan came to town.

Instead of returning to the bar, Connor plucks a few glasses of champagne off a passing tray. Four just in case. Carroll can double fist if he wants.

He holds one glass out to a returning Carroll.
)

So that's your brother.
practicallyinvisible: (10)

[personal profile] practicallyinvisible 2025-06-18 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
[That's for the best really. Brogan is not as tactful when it comes to his opinions about Cormac's girlfriend.

But lunch with Lois is not a struggle unless she's going to ask him about passing the bar - he already has - and becoming an associate - no thank you.]

Yeah, sure. Text me when.

[Carroll takes the glass from him and nods.]

Yep. One of them, anyway.

How many brothers do you have? Are they all in New York?

( Connor's going to learn anything he can about Carroll while he has the chance. As close friends as they are around the office, he knows very little about him. But he's been intrigued. He likes working with him. He's diligent, quiet, and hyperfocused. He's used to other paralegals and associates talking, talking, talking.

Carroll does his job.
)

Seven. And no, Cormac's the only one here, though not the only one stateside. Colm's at Tulane, and Brogan ... I think he's living in LA these days? He might have gone back to Vegas though.

[Hard to say, but he waves a hand after that.]

The rest are all over in Europe.

[personal profile] relationshipstatus 2025-06-18 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
Seven brothers. This isn't a seven brides situation, is it?

( He looks back at Robin and Maude because, that's a lot of brothers. That's not just him?

His younger cousins loved those classic musicals and it's the first thing that comes to mind. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. How would that even work, too. What are the chances seven sets of siblings work with another seven. Not to mention Carroll's sexuality - which, he's never directly asked Carroll, but he thinks he's heard a Grindr noise once.

He's still modern and he's been with his fair share of all kinds. Straight. Bi. Gay. Questioning. Desperate. Curious. The curious are actually the most work. He definitely steers clear of them, now.

[He snorts before shaking his head.]

No, nothing like that. We don't run around kidnapping significant others.

[It is also not the first time he's been asked this question though, because that seems to be what everyone's mind snaps to when he tells them he has seven brothers.]

Though one was married and one is engaged.

Two down.

( Not quite in the same way, but tradition states? )

One down. ( Was? Here's hoping for good old-fashioned relationships not working out, and not tragedy. )
practicallyinvisible: (15)

[personal profile] practicallyinvisible 2025-06-18 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Two down.

[He doesn't want to speak for Bairre, but he's not expecting his brother to be back on the market anytime soon. It's not even been a year yet. But he has time to figure it out and maybe it'd be like those people where they lose their soulmate and they don't feel the need to try.

He misses Laurie, though. She was a good fit for his brother.]

I don't think the hopes are high for the rest of us. At least not in the immediate.

[personal profile] relationshipstatus 2025-06-18 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
High hopes are overrated. I prefer to stick to the here and now.

( And not in anyone's expectations, (family, otherwise) especially his own. )

What do you say, should we pay the buffet a visit?
practicallyinvisible: (Default)

[personal profile] practicallyinvisible 2025-06-18 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, please. Let's eat.

[And with that, they will head off to get some food.]
