Yeah, we've been after these bodies for months. The last two were prepackaged with a nice resurrection spell and saddled Elena with her parents and the Sullivans with their dead son. Before that, Katherine and Damien were marked. Pretty sure they're still in the wind.

Sam had plenty of support. In addition to Allison, he also had the regent of New Orleans, Scott McCall and assorted friends. There was even a demigod.

[Which is basically Cas' way of saying there isn't much Dean could have done that Sam didn't already have handled.]

You probably would have both wound up in the pocket dimension and I would have needed to be called anyway.
