Elena and I did our residency together. We liked to think of it as, we were in the trenches. We've been friends for a long time. I didn't know her best friend was a vampire.

[She nods, because it's true. But she doesn't mention from which coven, because she's not here to draw attention to Josie and Lizzie.]

She is. Probably not the only one around, given that it's Mystic Falls.

[Well Caroline's going to keep that to herself, and just give a shrug.]

I don't know. I don't know how the magic stuff works. But I do know that Mystic Falls tends to be a magnet for the supernatural.

He hasn't woken up yet. Some people take longer than others.

["Dr. Katz." Perfunctory and polite, like she's not sure what to make of him being a witch yet. "How's his friend doing?"

Caroline shrugs.]

Also not great. I was going to try and convince her to take a walk, maybe get some coffee.

[Caroline doesn't really expect her to bite though.]

( He's equally as wary, but not as usually prickly as he can be. )

Lydia won't leave his his side?

[She shakes her head.]

I don't really blame her. She doesn't know anyone here, and we were supposed to keep him safe.

Hunters found you. If anything, it's good they were with you.

( He gets the guilt Caroline feels and he knows how to exploit that, but also how to reassure her as well. )

I didn't - ( He looks to Jo. ) know hunters were in town.

No one did. I just found out when I got back into town, and it seemed to be a fairly ... new development.

[They only found out because Stefan was attacked, after all.]

[She doesn't look it though. Being in the military and being a doctor has given her a pretty good game face.]

But if I know anything, it's that the bad goes away eventually. You just have to weather the storm.
