I don't know, Sam. I don't know. You know what our life is like. You know what we're in the middle of. I disappear every other freakin year. And if not me, you.
( he sighs, long and hard. )
I've missed his whole life, Sam. He's thirty and he has tattoos. And he doesn't look like me anymore. He has smooth hair and big, piercing eyes and he really took after Lisa so no wonder she didn't ask any questions.
[Sam falls quiet for a moment trying to figure out what to tell him. Because there's nothing he can say to give him that time back.]
Despite what we're in the middle of, it's not the same as what we were in before. This isn't about us. We can walk away any time and nothing's going to follow us.
[He says this, forgetting that the reason they're in this mess in the first place is that his brother is in love with the Petrova Doppelganger. But she hasn't been the priority, not yet, so in his mind they could just say no and walk away.]
If you want to get that time now, you could. Once he forgives you, anyway.
You're just going to walk away. Mom's walking away.
( What's realistic about that? But, he needs a second and calms himself down. He's the subject at hand. And Ben is. )
I want that time, Sam. But, I have a girlfriend who just got her dead parents back, we're babysitting a dead warlock's kid, we're still in the middle of a witch war on all sides. ( He sighs. ) I know I messed up. But, why do we always get the short stick.
[Sam takes a deep breath because of course, naturally, Dean puts everything on himself. He pulls the phone away from his ear for a moment, letting the wheels turn before pulling himself back into the conversation.]
Alright, look, Allison and I are getting close on these bodies. And once these two are taken care of, that only leaves the main family and we've been outsourcing that anyway. Mom and I can pick up the slack with monitoring from the bunker. Elena can handle her parents. She's going to have to go back to work anyway, so she can't stay with you in Battlecreek forever. And with Irina, Ezra might get pulled back into the coven soon anyway with how these attacks have been playing out, so it might be safer to move her.
( He's just spiraling because it's not at all about not asking for this, or the timing. Because the Ben of it all renders everything else moot. So, he listens. )
Pretty sure they're ( Caroline and Ryan ) running interference on their only doppleganger daughter running off with her boyfriend.
( He put himself on his own ledge, he knows. Still, he's being stubborn here, and she knows. Still, he grabs the burger, takes a bite, sips from his coke and lets that bite settle before speaking up again. )
He said he and mom can take point with the witch war. Coordinate their end from the bunker. And if she has to, Irina could head to the Salvatore School. Made a whole plan.
[She pulls up her phone with one hand and flips to her calendar, trying to see what her schedule is like. As much as she would like to stay and support him through all of it, she can't disappear on another job so close together.]
I don't have work until Tuesday. So I can at least stay until then.
[She reaches over to take his hand, giving it a small squeeze.]
And you got me through the worst of it. I will be okay. And if you need to talk, I want you to call, okay? I'm still here for you.
[And she can probably swing some weekends, depending. She also will be calling all the time. She will be a presence, even if she can't be here physically.]
We will figure this out. What you have to do here is important.
[Her phone buzzes with a message from Rudy, but she ignores that for right now, not wanting to break the conversation. She flips the phone over before facing him more, brushing her thumb against his hand.]
We hadn't really had the chance to talk about that yet. Whether or not kids were something you wanted.
[It feels weird, in some ways, bringing it up now, but she can't say it's not a relevant question.]
Yeah, well, kids -- weren't always options for us. And we raised Jack. ( he wouldn't have had a straight answer, that's for sure. ) Our life isn't kid-friendly. ( he always lumps in Sam. )My life. Isn't.
( but, he does know there were hunters that had them. his mom's parents. they saw husbands and wives over the years. the one gay hunting couple. tasha banes and her kids. )
And up til now - it was never an option. Ben was the closest... I came. And then we all raised Jack together. He was the closest thing I had to a kid. Our kid.
It's complicated on my end too. As much as I'm sure that Katherine and I are the last doppelgangers in existence, we don't know if there are other spells that were bound with our blood that would need a new doppelganger to undo.
[She doesn't know if she feels comfortable signing up her descendants for the traumatic life she lived.]
But I always thought I could adopt maybe. I really did want to be a mom.
My dad -- really screwed us up. And, I always thought if anything, I'd be uncle Dean, but if that's something you want. ( he rolls it around his mind. he knows his answer. ) We'd figure it out. I'm not getting any younger. ( he laughs once into a smile, his thumb caressing hers. ) The bunker's not forever, it'll always be there, but... maybe it's time. After this, squaring away everything with Ben. Maybe we get a real house.
[She smiles a bit at that, before shaking her head.]
Ben isn't the only thing to get settled. We have my parents to deal with too because they too can't live in the bunker forever. We may not be getting any younger, but we do still have time. Let's worry about what's in front of us first, but ... keep the future in mind.
[She doesn't want to rush this part either, the part where they're still figuring each other out. But it's good to know that they're both looking to the future.]

[And Sam would be pretty pissed if Dean had just ejected himself form his life without his consent.]
I'm sure he'll get over it. Are you okay?

Are Caroline and Ryan still at the bunker?

Pretty sure they're ( Caroline and Ryan ) running interference on their only doppleganger daughter running off with her boyfriend.

[And text Caroline to not take off right away to give him some time to get back.]
You just worry about Ben. We can handle everything else, and if we need you, we'll call.

Just worry about Ben.
( he can do that. )
no subject
I know Ben's pissed but ... this is a good thing, Dean. Try to remember that.
[He catches Allison coming out with a cup of coffee and sighs.]
Look, I gotta go. Keep me posted?
no subject
( He could go on a three page rant on why this is good and then Sam's done and Sam should be done. They'll only go in a circle at this rate. )
...Yeah, yeah I will. Thanks.
( For everything. )

That being said, Elena will let herself back into the hotel room, burgers in hand, and flashes Dean a smile.]
One double patty, as requested, plus fries. Did you catch Sam?

( he picks himself up from the bed and moves to the small two person table where they can set up. )
Cat's out of the bag.

I know. I mean it. This is different. It's -- everything, Elena.
( His hand finally covers hers. )
I have a son.

I'm sure Caroline is keeping it together.
