[Rebekah pauses to take a sip of her coffee before turning back to her niece.]
I was never as connected to magic as Kol was. I like having it now - it makes me feel a lot safer in a world where I used to feel so much more secure in myself, but it wasn't what I wanted out of being human.
[She wanted a family. She wanted Henry. Everything else was a happy side effect.]
[Rebekah shakes her head, reaching forward to place a hand on Hope's arm.]
You aren't taking anything away from her. It's not your blood that's going to turn her. All you are going to be doing is helping her solve a thousand year-old puzzle.
No offense, but you're new to your connection to magic. Kieran has had it her whole life. I can't imagine not feeling it all. If I didn't have my magic, my wolf. I'd fight to keep it, too, if I had to. And, if I can help, then I will. She deserves to try.
( But, she's happy to help. She really is. She finally tackles her beignet like a Mikaelson and falls into light conversation with her aunt. Josie. Etc.
In the coffee portion of the evening, Hope personally brings a cup to Kieran. )
[She takes the cup from her, and glances over with a smile. She's not going to push why Hope is coming for this conversation, even though she already knows why.]
Did you know I'd never had beignets before tonight? My last trip to New Orleans was very business forward with the hunters and the murders and the explosions, I didn't get a chance.
( Klaus likes his flair for after dinner drinks, even the non-alcohol variety. )
Beignets are a nonnegotiable when I come into the city. And, now, kind of once a week, but I'm trying to stretch that out to monthly, not that the calories count anymore.
( To the point. )
What options do you have? Say you take my blood, and you run your tests and you try to determine what you need, and, and it doesn't work. Are you still wanting to be a vampire if you don't -- if things don't progress too fast?
I've hit the maximum of what human medicine and human magic can do for me. I'm basically down to demon deals or vampirism and vampirism is the much better bargain even without my magic. And let's be real, if I don't put my foot down about the vampirism, my brother is going to do something stupid. He already sold his life force once, I'm not going to play fast and loose with his soul.
[Julian will, but she won't.]
I haven't come to this decision lightly. I've exhausted my options, and honestly, even if I don't solve this in time, being a vampire won't be that bad. I'll miss magic, but if it's a question of extending my life or keeping my magic, it's my life, hands down.
[A beat.]
But I guess it's still that part of me that wants to see if I can tell the limitations I've been given to fuck off.
Okay. Well, I really wouldn't want your brother to sacrifice any more of his life force for you or for anyone. So, I think what I'm really bad at saying is that, yes, you can have some of my blood. And I really wish you well and I hope you find the key to the lock you need.
( But, she has to ask. )
If you did find the solution, what would it look like for others that might want the same thing? Would you need more of mine or my aunt's blood?
Not sure at this point, but probably not. This is more about data points than spell components.
[She takes another sip of her coffee before setting it down on the table.]
So think of yours, Rebekah and Kol's blood as three respective data points. Kol is a magic user as a human who can't use magic as a vampire, you're a magic user as a human who can use magic as a vampire, and Rebekah is in the middle. A human who can use magic who used to be a vampire.
We don't know why the magic that makes people vampires negates most former witches ability to use magic. Like sure, it's a consequence of becoming a vampire, but what does it actually do to you. What does your blood and magic do differently than Kol's? Once I figure that out, then I'll move into the components end of things, but I think it's going to be more about finessing the magic of the original vampire spell versus using your blood every time.
[She pauses.]
And if your blood does wind up being a major component needed, then that's a non-starter for me. I won't put you in that position. You've got enough bullshit on your plate, I'm not looking to make it worse. I'll give you the research and you can decide what you want to do with it.
We share my grandmother's grimoire, did my aunt Rebekah already show you the spell?
( Because, it was also very pointedly made for her family. And it goes even farther back, thanks spell history and lineage. They don't have Quetsiyah's. It sounds like hers might actually be the best point of origin, but again, that's lost to - from what she's heard - a suicidal, slightly crazy witch who once took away her uncle Stefan's memory. )
Well, for the record, I hope you can do this. And even more than that, I hope you can do it in time. There's no good studies on when vampirism is rejected, but I hope you know what your doing with your time table. And thank you, for coming to be in person.
Thank you for considering it. And I was serious about doing a full assay for you. Anything you want to know about your blood and I can probably figure it out.
[It'd be nice to bond with the members of Kol's family who are closer to her own age. They really are ancient, when you spend longer than five minutes around them.]
And yeah, he is. At least for right now. Crash may get called back to their job, and he may go with, but he's at least here through the weekend.
( She doesn't begrudge anybody their identities, but the Crash she met seems very feminine. And quite British. Not that that also... defines anything. )
Crash is a shapeshifter and very genderfluid. Their presenting gender depends on the vibe. That look I think they call "Jolene."
[Yes, that Jolene.]
Most of them are named after famous songs. I don't think that's a shapeshifter thing, though, I think it's just a Crash thing. I've met some who default to different variations on one gender versus the other for day-to-day stuff.

( There is that. )
If she could've unlocked that within you, if you were still a vampire, would you?

I feel like I'm taking hers away from her. But, I know she only has so much time.

It took a lot of guts to even ask me. That has to count for something.

[She pauses as she considers the statement.]
I don't think she has a lot to lose. But it's brave of her to ask all the same.
no subject
( She even believes in her. )

[Rebekah gives a small shrug.]
I think it will mean a lot to both of them. And Kieran may be able to help you learn new things about your blood as well.

But we don't have anywhere to be.

Cool. He can invite Crash, too. However they want to come.
( Nice. )

[She will also ensure that they're both on their best behavior.
An alarm beeps on her phone and she sighs.]
I have to go take my meds. But I'll text you?

( And at that, she will sit back with her coffee, before exploring heavier topics in about twenty minutes. )
