Intentionally? No, not really. But sometimes things work themselves out.
[Especially since Buffy's own misfortunes in romance are so prominent. But Dawn doesn't really mind - she thinks that it makes Buffy happy that this one worked out.
"Either way, it seems like the two of you are doing well here in New Orleans," Cami says as she sips her drink. "The factions are certainly happy."]
Helps I have a bride-to-be to smooth the law enforcement side of things. All the factions needed was someone with an open mind. Someone who could see everything from all sides. And, of course, represent the people.
Everybody's getting along until everybody doesn't. That's usually how things go in a place like this, right?
[Cami holds up a finger. "The last time things went bad here, it wasn't internal. It was an external hunter problem. And then an external witch problem."]
If it were my choice, I would. But, I'm at the mercy of my tour manager. And whatever sort of logistics they work under. You could've come to Vegas. Ain't that right, Carroll?
[Carroll looks up at him like why are you pulling me into this and Cami smirks.]
If I had come to Vegas, I would have gotten the chance to ask probing questions to your dates in advance. I don't think anyone likes that.
[As she teases, however, tonight's manager steps up to the microphone and says with a smile. "Hello, everyone. Tonight, Rousseau's would like to welcome - Serena Chen!"
Serena steps onto the stage, flashing them all a smile, and as the band picks up, she begins to sing. She's always been one for a sadder song, and this speaks to a loneliness some may find familiar.
And it also draws in the crowd with ease - will saves for the group, except for Cal.]
( Because no brother left behind. Also, you brought a wee date. One that's lasted, has it not?
Callahan turns around, then, and leans against the railing, letting his brothers bicker.
Brogan (nat 20, he is a musician), Cormac (12), Beck (8). It's a jaunty tune with sadder lyrics, but her energy and spunk does capture something in Callahan as he watches and he applauds at the end of the song. As do they all, I'm guessing. )
[What Cal might notice, in addition to the song, is that more than half of his brothers (Cormac, Beck, Bairre (1), Bradan (6) and Colm (12)) not only are attentive, but practically leaning in as they remain focused on the performance. Cami (16), Carroll (16), and Brogan are towards the back of their group, still engrossed in their conversation, but Dawn (18), who's sitting closer to Cal, frowns just slightly as she also watches the crowd itself, doing the same lean towards the stage as the Fords are doing.
"Huh."
As the music ends, Serena flashes the crowd a smile.]
Good evening, New Orleans and thank you for having me. How's everybody doing tonight?
( He cants his head to the side, adopting Dawn's same curiosity. It's harder to keep Colm and Cormac's attention on a good day. And his oldest brother seems downright transfixed. There is something haunting about her voice, but is it just that. )
I think most people that do, don't. You're not alone there.
[Dawn's eyes dart back to Serena briefly, the pull of the siren song still there, but she's still withstanding.]
I don't think she is either. I think she just doesn't expect people to notice. Especially when all she's trying to siren you into doing is staying to watch her sing.
But if you want to talk about people with powers though, maybe you should talk to Mia. She's a legacy of the superhero crowd.
( He was jock-ish and dickish before his power emerged, so he was on the Gaelic field and keeping his weight up, not paying attention to superheroes. )
I'll take your word for it, then. ( re: Serena. ) That wouldn't be awkward at all. "An' what are you, now?"
Ya' think? I already do that, not looking to really ramp up my efforts if you know what I mean. You're on Lindsay's side, though, but you've met by big brother?
Actually technically I'm more on his side of things. Watcher solidarity.
[She smirks as she reaches for her drink.]
Beck and I were kind of coming up around the same time as Giles was remaking the Watcher's Council so we got to work on a lot of projects together. Granted, I was in college, he was done with all that, but it creates a bond all the same.
It's a weird shop to talk about. You spend a lot of your days buried in books and talking about demons from dimensions with no name and it kind has the way of killing a vibe.
[With Buffy and Jeremy it's easy, as they're also in the biz, as it were, but other people can make things complicated.]
I'm sure when he's around you guys the last thing he wants to talk about is his day job.

Been a long time. I'm starting to think you just don't want to play shows in New Orleans.
[Making her drive all the way to Baton Rogue to see him.]

How much do you know about the Ford's, Dawn?
no subject
[She's not concerned, Serena doesn't seem to be luring sailors to their death. She's just trying to pull in her audience.
But to answer Cal's question:]
I know a little. I know you guys have powers from an unknown source, but aside from Beck's, I don't really know what the individual ones are.
[A beat.]
Oh, and Bairre's. Because Lindsay told me about the cake.
no subject
( Hags that live on the edges of cliffs? And draw men to their deaths. Sink ships. Lindsay seemed enthralled, too. )
It's our family line. Runs through our pa. Activates when we turn twenty. You think the singer is like us? Her power is her voice?
no subject
[Self-taught witches can vary, but witch bloodlines tend to have these abilities running through them.]
I think you'd have to ask her which one hers is. Why do you ask?
no subject
( This... stuff?. He definitely sees his family's gifts as burdens. Well. For some of them. His oldest brother got off easy. And the man of the hour. )
Cause I've never met anybody else that can do what my brothers do. That have what we have. We don't exactly advertise.

( He kind of wonders why he'd talk to a superhero. He's not superhero worthy. His power is a burden. As far as he's concerned. )
I'll tell you, lass, we know when our power is up to know good. Turning it off ain't an option. So, if she can, she's not one of us.
no subject
[And that's common knowledge so Dawn doesn't feel bad about sharing it. This is what happens when you take your heroing public.
But as for Serena:]
I don't know either way. I don't think we'd be able to know unless we talked to her and she felt comfortable sharing.

I'll take your word for it, then. ( re: Serena. ) That wouldn't be awkward at all. "An' what are you, now?"

I probably wouldn't lead with that, no. Definitely sounds like a way to put someone on edge.

More like, rehashing our childhood beef. Giving each other guff.

[Dawn nods in agreement.]
That sounds like siblings. Me and my sister are big on the casual bickering.
