The vampires had been unfocused enough that he could ignore them but here, the bitterness, the frustration, yes that's something enough to trigger the spell that holds him in place, and he appears, suddenly, touseled red hair, disheveled clothes - usually he has a bit more warning, to be a bit more presentable, but it's been so long.
Has it passed a century? Is October still alive? He can't seem to focus on either of those thoughts and instead focuses on the man in front of him.]

[His head tips up to try and get a sense of the time.]
( Xander is not paying attention to the orb, the smoke, the swirl, or anything. It might as well be a tennis ball in his gloved hand. )
When it comes to Connie, how serious should I be taking her flirta - ( The orb drops into his palm as Xander startles and whips his closed fist around as he turns. )aaah!
( He takes a whole step back, into Lucia. Orb still in hand, he gestures forward, making his point. )
Do not startle a slayer and - and me. Who are you and what kind of assistance are you offering?
[Lucia was about to tell him to take it not at all seriously unless he wants to find himself set up on a date with her granddaughter, which, her granddaughter is very hot but she and Xander would not get along, but then he starts talking to someone and she whirls around to see ... nothing.

A brief ah look crosses Simon's face and he holds up a finger.]
Something of note: as you are the one holding the orb, you are the only one who can see me. As for assistance, that is entirely up to you. Mostly illusions, sometimes simply as a source of information. It depends on the need of the owner of the orb.
( He looks back at her, but the man's voice tells him he's holding the orb. And not just holding, but he's the owner. He looks back. )
Hey. Orb-guy. I didn't sign a contract or buy this orb. I tossed it around. And I'm wearing gloves! ( He holds up the gloves hand not holding the orb. He turns back to Lucia. ) I think someone is in the orb and only I can see them. Says I own him, now, like a horse. Or, like I own a whole person I never asked for.
That's a misnomer, actually, there are many magical artifacts that work through material. It's more about ... let's call it sympathy magic. There's something about you that is drawn to the orb for whatever reason. Also, possession is nine tenths and all that, so holding it counts as ownership.
[Lucia processes Xander's part of the explanation, before moving to take a closer look at the orb. "Should we let him out?"
Simon responds before Xander can ask.]
As much as I would love that suggestion, I wouldn't get your hopes too high on that front.

With a sigh, he goes to wash off vampire crypt off his body and changes into something light, but comfortable. He works on the window that always sticks, but tonight, it budges and pushes open. A warm wind pushes through the window.
He has a brief thought, now dressed, wondering if Simon's presence is ... all around. Because he's like, locked in to this vengeance contract. But he doesn't see him anywhere right now. So, he probably didn't see him change. Or the unread text message from his friend. Or, the leftover Chinese still half eaten by the bed.
[As Xander's attention does shift more to the matter at hand, Simon does get sent back to the orb. It's a tenuous connection, not wanting to push too hard, and blessedly for Simon, the ability to afford his various masters their privacy.
Not that some haven't tried to make use of the rapt attention of a handsome man. Oleander was ... well, that mostly seemed to be a carryover from when Simon was corporeal. But she's dead now. Best not to think about it too hard. Regardless, when Xander's thoughts do turn back to Simon again, he makes an appearance at a respectable distance away, as though to not crowd him in.]

[He pauses because where does he begin in explaining this. How a lot of time of the last few decades has been spent wishing for things to be over.]
And forgive me for having a singular focus, but for the past few ... decades at least, I have had little agency in my actions beyond the tasks I'm given or being put to sleep and waking up with a whole new master to manage. Very few of them cared to have an actual conversation.
