I've done a little digging myself. The Fell's, especially, have a lot of losses in their families, so I could see them stepping back from all things founding related. The Salvatores being... Damon and Stefan Salvatore?
That's them. I'm pretty sure one of them killed the sheriff, I just don't have any proof.

They're also decently old vampires - the Forbes one, Caroline? She was turned fairly recently. Maybe in the last five or six years. But the thing is, they're a weird kind of vampire. Matt mentioned something about turning their emotions off?
Killed the sheriff, dumped in his trunk. Flashy for local vampires.

Turning their emotions off? Not possible. Vampires are vampires. Demons. They have all the emotions, just not the ones we want them to. You come face to face with any of them?
The "animal attacks" with torn out throats or missing hearts really seem to lean that way.

Maybe they found another way. I don't know. But there's definitely something in this town killing people, and it's probably these weirdo psuedo-vampires.
