[She's not doing time zone math right now, but if he's up he can call her.]

( It's about an hour and a half later, after he says goodbye to Cooper and plugs his number into his phone that he sees his stepmother's text. Shit.

He connects the call right away. How did his dad take the news, should he have really sent Mia away? Was she warning him? )

In my defense, I'm doing an entirely different thing.

[She steps out of the room, away from Oliver so he doesn't eavesdrop, not that he would.]

I don't know, is dad sitting right there?

( Kind of. Kind of not. He sort of stumbled into his thing, and he hasn't accepted anything yet. Technically, this thing is over. )

He is not.

[She closes the bedroom door behind her.]

He's busy being anxious about how much his children turned out like him.

Also in my defense, I went after Mia, I just stumbled onto something else. Something that dovetailed into her thing. Mia did talk to dad, right? I'm not holding a grenade to my ear?

( He still needs to check. )

Mia did talk to your dad. He's busy trying to track down Constantine to see if he can get more information about this whole Slayer thing.

[Which hopefully provides further proof.]

Right, this whole once in a generation turned every girl activated once just one dies. ( She sucks in a breath. ) I did some light digging. It's the real deal. Untraceable, but there's been chatter about it going back over twenty years. Why do you think, Mia?

[razes]

Why do you think any of us?

[Laurel's no stranger to having one in a million luck, given the givens. Sometimes things just happen to people and they have to figure out how to deal with them.]

Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't.

[slavophile]

Is it her getting lucky or not. She's stronger. Inhumanly meta-strong.

( So, lucky? )

Luck usually depends on how you use it.

[Those powers could be the best thing that ever happened to her, or they could also be the worst. That's up for Mia to decide.]

It's her choice in the end - we can't make it for her.

She's not going to use her powers for evil. She's hard to please, but she's not malicious. ( Not unless you royally piss her off. ) Anyway, I might have stumbled into my own - situation.

That's honestly the one I was more curious about.

[Oliver got the full rundown on Mia's situation, but Mia was appropriately clueless about William's.]

And why you called, and dad didn't. I went looking for her first. Her trail went cold in Paris, and then, I was -- I'm fine, but I was attacked and someone saved me.

( Always make it clear, everything is fine! )

Was it a cute someone?

[What? She's married but she's not dead. Also, a lighter question will hopefully make it feel less like a parent grilling their child and more of a conversation of what they're up to.]

Yeah, but, straight. And, I wasn't what he was after. My skills, on the other hand... I made him a deal, to help him and who he was working for if he'd help me find Mia. And, without trying to, he did.

( She ended up being there after all. )

I did meet a cute someone.

[Then, she pauses as she realizes she needs to be a responsible parent.]

Wait. Give me more details about this deal you made first. Then we'll talk about the cute someone.

Well, for one, the supernatural world is a lot bigger than we thought. Slayers, vampires, demons... witches. Name it, it probably exists. Isaac's a werewolf and he works for a network of other supernaturals.

( Not as large a one as he thought. )

Huh.

[Well it makes sense that they would be working together.]

So are you now a werewolf IT specialist?

[slavophile]

I think we both know I'm a little more than that.

( But, kind of also, yes, he is. Sort of his handler when he's in the field. But, he also takes his orders from her. )

But, he did recruit me after ... saving my life. There was going to be quid pro quo, help them, they'd help me find Mia.

[razes]

Let me guess.

[Because she can hazard a guess at where this might be going.]

Now that you've found Mia, you're not sure you want to walk away?

[slavophile]

Something big is happening. Supernaturals, they're being hunted. And with Mia now magic...

( He does worry. )

[She takes a deep breath.]

Look, your father is going to disagree with me, mostly because he wants you both home so he can see with his own two eyes that you're safe.

But you guys are all grown up and doing your own hero thing now. If that's where you think you need to be, then that's where you should stay. Just don't be afraid to reach out if you think you might need help.
