[Caroline and Ryan fly back into Mystic Falls on a red eye out of LAX and arrive in the early hours of the morning the day before New Year’s Eve. She makes her way home first, and spends some time catching up with her mom, but by the time the afternoon rolls around, she decides she’s waited long enough, and makes her way over to the Lockwood Manor, alone, to see Matt.
She lets herself in, catching Matt as he’s moving from the stairs to the kitchen, and pulls him into a hug before he can go too far, pulling him in close.
Yes, he’s being ambushed by a pile of blond, but she’s been wanting to do this for at least a week, so don’t judge her.]

[“Hope you didn’t eat before you got here, Wilson.” The officer lifting the crime scene tape for him give him a sympathetic look, before shaking his head. ”It’s messy in there.”
He can see a bit of the blood as he makes his way to the door, but that’s nothing compared to what he sees once he gets inside. The blood is everywhere, smeared across the tile floor of the kitchen. The body can’t even really be discerned as more than a bloody pulp, mixed with fragments of cloth from it’s clothes.

new year’s concert (carroll, connor, brogan, colm, ivan, cormac, lindsay, beck) | las vegas
[Colm is not an overtly overprotective brother, not really. His brothers can do what they like most of the time, and as the baby of the family, it’s a bit strange if he’s trying to bully away their significant others. In fact, most of his siblings generally have good taste in partners.
Except Lois. Unfortunately, Lois proved to be a disappointment.
Carroll, however, has always proved to be an exception to that, solely for the reason that he didn’t have partners very often. He didn’t even bring around friends all that much. So when Carroll leaves the box where their family has gathered for the concert, saying that he has a friend coming, Colm waits until he’s sure his brother is out of earshot, before turning on Cormac, who is drowning his sorrows.]
[It starts to snow as they make their way to dinner on New Year’s Eve, and Lydia is trying not to dwell on the fact that their trip is coming to an end. Returning to the life they’re building in New York also means dealing with the Erica of it all, and what Lydia is supposed to do about that, exactly.
The girl did try to kill her once. Sure, it was in high school and Erica did die in between, but she thinks she’s entitled to have mixed feelings about it.
She did reach out to Ethan, on the off chance that Aiden was among the returned, but it seems like they weren’t so lucky there. It’s probably for the best. How do you process your twin suddenly being on a completely different page from you?
She also has been texting with Allison, trying to sort out her feelings in that respect, but she’s not upset Erica is alive again. She’s just not sure she wants to deal with it. Maybe that doesn’t really matter.
She pauses outside the restaurant, watching the snow swirl around her, and Harvey says something that draws her back into the present, rather than the future, and she shakes her head.]
( Allison assures her Erica isn't like what Lydia remembers, but makes it clear her feelings are valid. She reads everything and asks the appropriate questions. She is there for it where she needs it, but she is also juggling all these new people in the Beacon Hills house. Between that and the time difference, she is helpful, but it's not as constant as she'd like it to be. She hopes Lydia feels a little better in the back and forth.
Harvey has had his first vacation since he can remember. His feelings have deepened to a degree he didn't even see coming. )
I don't know, did I?
( He takes her hand, stepping close. ) Where are you right now?
Beacon Hills, junior year, sitting next to a blond who wanted me dead.
[Lydia shakes her head, trying to wave it off. It's complicated, she knows, and she's not meant to feel perfectly about it, but it's probably for the best she's not back in Mystic Falls, trying to sort all of this out with her friends.]
Just ... thinking about Erica.
[She's mentioned the part about her coming back from the dead, and maybe a little about how Erica died, but probably not much about their actual history.]
( His look goes from curious to sympathetic, here to listen. The snow makes it more poignant, he decides, as he steps closer to let someone else into the cafe. )
You said you went to high school with her and she was in Isaac's pack. You didn't mention she had a yen to kill you. Why you?
[It was a little bit teenage girl stuff, probably, but also not.]
After Peter bit me, these weird murders started happening - murders committed by a kanima. They thought that I could have been the kanima, because I was immune to it's venom. We didn't know I was a banshee yet.
[She pauses for a minute, because she knows this wasn't Erica's fault.]
She was just listening to her alpha. Derek wasn't in a great place. So I'm not mad at her, exactly, but her coming back is dredging up thoughts of a time where I was intentionally kept out of the loop and it led to messed up things happening to me instead.
[She’s nervous. She probably shouldn’t be nervous. She’s already slept with him, she shouldn’t be nervous.
At the same time, this feels different. They’re doing things the right way, not just falling into bed in the heat of the moment. She’s pushing past the messy way he stumbled into her life and trying to take him as he is now. And he said he wants to take her on a date. So take her on a date he shall.
She and Rebekah went out for an appropriate dress because despite being incredibly old, she has good fashion taste. Maybe she should have asked her mom, but Rebekah felt like more of the vibe she wanted to go for. Classy, but cute. She also has cute ankle boots and leaves her hair loose around her shoulders.
When Archer knocks on the door, she hesitates, wondering if she should grab her coat and save the dress for a grand reveal. Then she shakes it off, figuring that she should at least see if he likes it before they get out the door.
She takes a deep breath, pulls open the door and smiles.]
[Toby slips from the fae side of things into the real world, settling into the shadows of New York City, just before midnight on New Year’s Eve. She winds through the familiar streets, taking her time, trying not to feel the stress of what’s coming. It’s never easy, when her boss is in his off time, but if Toby is going to figure this out, they need all the off time she could get.
She feels bad, when she shows up at the bar and pretends to just be Toby the regular, Ford’s friend, rather than October Daye, right hand of the Arbiter. It feels like she’s cheating, especially when it comes to the woman who she sees Ford circling, more often than not.
She flashes Malina a smile as she gets closer, sliding up to the bar and giving her a nod.]
Hey. Is your boss around?
[Malina returns to the smile before nodding. “Yeah, he’s here.” The bar is packed, however, so it’s hard to see him. “Gimme a sec and I’ll go find him.”
With that, she slips away, moving down the bar to try and see if there’s any sign of Ford in the crowd of people trying to get a drink before midnight.]
( He's on the far end, sitting on his own stool in the corner. There's a gap between the regular side of the bar and a small foot long part. This is Ford's stool, usually, if he's there and drinking. And, it's New Years, so he is there and he is drinking. He worked the day shift, which included the Irish New Year and that's their main draw, so he's earned his drink at the end of the day.
... Five, but who's counting.
He's sipping from his glass, happy with the night crowd, when he sees his manager approach. He brings his mouth off the glass and sets it down, ready to switch into owner mode. What does she need? )
[She's not sure what he and Toby are to each other, though they've both profusely reassured her that there's nothing going on there. Toby made an off-hand comment about a girl Friday or something to that effect, but Malina tries not to focus on it.
It's not really her business. Or at least that's what she tells herself.]
( He spots his friend at the other side of the bar, waiting patiently. ,b>)
How much later, exactly? After the crowds die down or after we're closed for the evening. She's welcome. ( And because the manage he hired never has enough fun. ) You going to stay out here for the big ball drop?
[Malina raises a hand to wave Toby down, before shrugging.]
It's chaos out here, but maybe. Might be a good time to come grab a drink.
[Maybe get a kiss at midnight, if things go her way. But that's a conversation for a later time. There's still an hour left, and technically she's still on the clock.]
( He's not a great read on others when it comes to him, so he's missed if there's a level of jealousy here. He just thinks she's working, stressed, and Toby's one more body. But, the smirk he slips her is not friendly in any way, before he settles for slightly professional as Toby approaches. )
[Hiro isn’t technically watching the door. He’s just having a drink where the door happens to be visible. Ken is nearby, doing karaoke, Emi and Asa are upstairs with Elton, and he deposited Pasha for emotional support before heading down and getting a drink.
It isn’t that he doesn’t want to help Elton. He understands what his stepbrother is going through. He’s just always been a numbers man, and it’s frustrating that Elton never seems to run his, never seems to think things all the way through. His brother has always had a big heart and has always led with his heart. He just wished it got him into less trouble.
His eyes just so happen to be on the door when Ezra and his friend enter. He doesn’t know if Elton called them here, or if Ezra found them—he likely didn’t have to try hard—but Hiro doesn’t like that he brought a stranger with him, and he can’t help but tense as he looks down at his drink, speaking quickly into his earpiece.]

The plan is to stay in and recover, get some sleep and be bright eyed and bushy tailed for whatever public events were on the docket for tomorrow.
What they’re not expecting, however, is a knock on the door early in the evening. Not unexpected, they had ordered pizza. Lindsay hops to her feet, heading to the door, excited for cheesy goodness, and when she pulls it open, she finds she is sorely mistaken. It is not, in fact, the pizza.
