[Apparently a lot of Stefan’s friends are coming to Thanksgiving.
Not that Dawn is mad about it. It turns out that some of Stefan’s friends are also Jeremy’s friends, and so this feels like a low pressure opportunity to scope them out without it being an “official” meeting. There’s probably going to be enough of that if and when she gets to Kansas to meet his parents, which she’s totally not jealous about at all. Especially since she technically has one living parent.
Though that is a huge technicality.
Still, with Buffy in the kitchen working on the spread and Stefan is there being an actual chef and helping with said spread, Lindsay and Beck debating their potential return to the states, and Faith is not reliable on door duty, so it leaves Dawn to answer the door as people arrive. A knock sounds, and she makes her way over to the entrance, pulling it open with a smile.]
Hi. Happy Thanksgiving.
[She will save verbal invitations for those that need it, depending on who is actually at the door.]
( Speaking of technicalities, Bonnie definitely covers both bases in being Stefan's friend (though Damon's best friend) and Jeremy's friend. Her history with the younger Gilbert is long past and it had its' seriousness. These days, they remain exes and friends who respect each other. She became one of his premier witch contacts and should he end up international, or should she, or should he have some questions, she becomes his go-to witch. He'd argue she's the most powerful witch he knows. He knows about others, about regents and ancestors but nobody but Bonnie has lost and gained her magic back more times than either of them can count. So, to Jeremy, Bonnie's like the witch.
It's been a long time since he was just Elena's little brother.
Bonnie slams the door of the rented Jeep, meeting Isaac behind to pull their bags out of the trunk. She hands Danny's his, Isaac grabs his own, and she pulls her own out closing it behind her.
She leads the way up to, essentially what feels like a foreboding castle, but she knows good is done here. The drive was beautiful and in some ways that's definitely enough, but she can't help feel her witchy tingle.
She does glance back at Isaac, remembering their time in the fort. She vows to keep him from enclosed spaces. No closets, no small bedrooms, she will go to the wine cellar if there's a wine cellar.
They got this.
And then the door opens. And Dawn is prettier in person, and somehow Bonnie just gets her, her air, her welcome quality. Also, something inherently clicks as a witch (20) and she sees just how powerful Dawn is. But she can't put a finger as to what that might mean. )
Happy Thanksgiving! Isaac and Danny, this is Dawn Summers. Buffy's sister and Jeremy's girlfriend.
Yes, I am. And you're Bonnie. Nice to put a name to an in-person face.
[Dawn isn't powerful. She is a powerful thing, but she's not powerful in her own right. She and Bonnie can chat about it later, but not when she's greeting people at the door.]
Welcome to our Scottish Thanksgiving.
[Isaac and Danny come up with walk behind her, offering a small nod in return.]
( Bonnie wouldn't dream. It's not her place. She was an anchor once upon a time. And then the vessel for killing all vampires. There are things she doesn't discuss. )
Thank ( Buffy for accepting the idea ) you for inviting us. Believe it or not, this is my first true castle.
( She doesn't know everything about being a slayer, but there are a few things out there in the public. Including a very short-term stint being classified as terrorists that was quickly rescinded. )
( Almost like divine intervention, the exterior holds up long enough for everyone alive (or a vampire) to make it back outside onto the grass. Once they rally vehicles to meet everyone in town at the hospital, the remaining part of the castle collapses in the rearview mirrors.
Once Buffy knows Dawn and the injured slayers have been admitted and are being taken care of, she gives her sister a kiss on the forehead, telling her to rest. She answers what questions she can, and promises she'll get more answers. They cry together about the lost girls. About the potential. The lives ruined. And ended.
But, Buffy has never settled in, tearful. No, she takes action.
She tells Stefan to gather everyone. Damon shares that Rhett has information they need. She tells Stefan that Rhett has no choice, that he can bring his wife, his son, whomever. But, they're all meeting.
She holds court in one of the empty lecture labs, leaning against the desk at the bottom. Because she needs to get to the bottom of this. )
[Scarlett will ensure that Rhett attends, if for no other reason than she doesn't think that Buffy and the others will mean Russell any harm once they understand what's involved. They may even want to help his dangerous endeavor.
They take the time Buffy is spending with her sister to clean themselves up, Scarlett gets a fresh pair of shoes and opts for an ensemble with significantly less blood, and appears at the top of the lecture hall, one arm tucked into Rhett's and she turns to him with a nod.]
I know you are protective, but this is for the best, darling. Buffy may be able to help him succeed.
[So not more sudden stops and restarts. They may live to see the whole of his life, until he is old and gray. Wouldn't that be worth it?]
( His hand. Russell is the cause. But, Russell did not ask for this to happen. Everyone in this lecture hall knows the Gauntlet was coming.
He takes his hand, holds her arm and starts down the steps. Damon is sat like a cat on one of the chairs. Bonnie and Isaac are in chairs in the second row. Faith's got her feet kicked up on an empty chair.
The door opens and a nurse rolls Dawn's wheelchair in.
Buffy, surprised, meets her by the door, has a small argument with the nurse and then sighs. She can't blame Dawn for wanting to be there. She looks to Stefan, maybe he told her. She should be here. They should all be here. )
[Yeah, this was her castle too. There's no way Dawn isn't going to be part of this war room. It's bad enough she can't actually go help, but she wants to at least put her two cents in.
Stefan offers Buffy a smile, and takes Dawn's wheel chair from the nurse, rolling her down into one of the handicap accessible seats.]
See? Even Stefan's on my side.
["Stefan is staying out of this and is just making sure everyone finds their seat safely."
Wes and Melanie follow Scarlett and Rhett in, each finding their own seats as they settle in for a talk.]
Alright. Where are we starting? I heard you guys know who's responsible?
("We'll talk about this later," she says. Dawn better not have bribed the nurse. What she even told her to bring her down here, even. But, what's done is done now.
Rhett lets Scarlett take a seat by their family as he descends the steps down to Buffy's level, smiling. He takes a few more steps and turns to address the class. He did not sign up for a lecture. )
They're called the Inner Circle. Specifically, two members are responsible. Reprehensible revelers by the names of Wallace and Corsair. The vampires sent belong to an ancient sect called The Ivory Tower. We spent years entangled in their employ, so-to-speak. Brannigan, the lieutenant in the catacombs was surprised we were there. This was an attack of opportunity and a retaliation because someone has been killing members of the Inner Circle. I believe everyone here is familiar with The Colony.
( Buffy hikes one leg up, half sitting on the corner of the desk, still untrusting. )
This was meant as a statement, and, if you and your compatriots were involved, a coordinated attack.
( Buffy is losing patience.
"So, they chose us because someone you know has been offing these members. And they just so happened to think we might be helping.")
Either-or.
( Damon raises a hand.
"We also have confirmation the Gauntlet's been thrown. The witch wars have begun," he says, looking at Bonnie, who looks away leans against Danny's shoulder. She holds Isaac's hand. )
his fiancee (still to be determined?) was given something to rest, but beck won't be sleeping any time soon. maybe if his body forces him. they let him post-up in a chair in the corner, considering the fit he threw. still, it's been hours of making sure she was alright after their impromptu war room.
still. this feels closer to his thing than something of his brother's. )
[There is no message, just a picture of half Colm's face, cheek stuffed with food, and the other half blocked by him giving Brogan the finger in retaliation.
That's it that's the text, that's the sign of life he is choosing to convey.]
( Even though his twin replied on his behalf, he knows his mother, so he takes his own selfie of him on their couch, a book and Teabag (his cat, it's an acceptable name) in his lap, a cuppa' sitting beside him on the table. No middle finger. )
Ma, they don't need too many cooks in the kitchen.
[Not because he doesn't think she should help if needed but more because from what he knows of the Slayers, they may just want their space to deal with this.]
